Jemaa el-Fnaa square_ Marrakech is a major city in the northwest African nation of Morocco. Another beautiful view from the Kasbah du Toubkal's terrace in the High Atlas Mountains. This is truly a unique location and an excellent place to stay if you are keen on trekking to the Toubkal, the tallest peak in Northern Africa.

My host family took me to Lake Takerkoust (its dam powers all of Amizmiz and Marrakech) for a hike. Up here, you can see the entire floodplain and the river tributary that flows into the main lake. Far away on the other side, you can see a motorbike riding across the dirt road as if a speck of dust was slowly floating across space. As we sat and ate our picnic of fruit and veggy sticks, I couldn't help but wonder how much more Morocco is than just its stereotypical perception, a desert.
