A pair of sandhill cranes feeding in the wetland at Volo Bog. You have to stay on the boardwalk here which does not have handrails and runs through the heart of the bog. If you did fall off you would forever be a a part of the wetland.
A special place that is the only quaking bog in Illinois this wetland annually attracts big numbers of swans, ducks and sandhill cranes. We had a 10 inch snowstorm on Monday so I ventured out to see if I could locate any sandhills and while I observed many I was only able to get close to a couple of them. The call of a sandhill crane is something you will never forget once you hear it.
