Ventnor is a Victorian seaside town situated on the southern side of the Isle of Wight, right in the heart of the famous Undercliff, much of which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visitors will find a great variety of lovely seaside tea shops, pubs and restaurants dotted along the esplanade serving locally caught fish and locally brewed ales. There are also some quirky and bespoke shops, a park and a children’s paddling pool. The town, which for the most part is built on the steep hill leading to the beach, retains its original seaside charm and makes a great day out for all the family.
Sheltered from the north by St Boniface Downs, owned by the National Trust, Ventnor benefits from its own micro-climate which provides an ideal haven for a variety of flora and fauna. The neighbouring village of Bonchurch lies just to the east of Ventnor and is renowned for its literary connections; writers and poets such as Dickens, Stackpole and Swinburn all resided here for a time.
