Tucked away in their own picturesque valley, this imposing stone farmhouse and three Grade II listed properties Kildale Barn, Ingleby Barn and Westerdale Barn lie on the site of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey in an idyllic setting, where endless footpaths radiate from the door. Accessed by a 2-mile drive, they are set on a working farm where sheep and cattle graze (farm machinery – children must be supervised) within the glorious North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Baysdale Abbey has been furnished and equipped to a very good standard. All rooms are spacious, light and airy with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Original wooden floors on the ground level blend with shuttered windows, cornices add decorative touches and open fires in the reception rooms provide a welcoming atmosphere. A large natural garden surrounds the house and is edged by a fenced beck, providing a good habitat for an array of wildlife. Dating back to the 1800s, the other three holiday properties offer character accommodation in a tranquil and idyllic location. Vaulted beamed ceilings and wood-burning stoves add to the charm and character providing a welcoming atmosphere. Offering 3 miles of sandy beaches is the historic port of Whitby with its picturesque harbour and cobbled streets. Here you can board the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Train (Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films) and take a memorable journey through the stunning Esk Valley. Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Duncombe Park and Rievaulx Abbey are just a few of the treasures awaiting discovery. The coastal villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Sandsend all lie within 23 miles. This is an ideal holiday location at any time of the year. Shop 3 miles, pub 6 miles and restaurant 8 miles.
Westerdale Barn (27944) can be booked together with Baysdale Abbey (27943), Kildale Barn (27945) and Ingleby Barn (27946) to accommodate up to 31 guests.

The property is down a 3 mile track that needs to be driven down with care as it is narrow with few passing places, personally we had no issues with this. The property was clean, modern and well equipped. The silence was deafening but was most welcomed, the beds were immaculately clean and comfortable. We went out everyday to different places, so found lots of things to do. Our dog loved the venue and was able to go in every pub in the area, most places are dog friendly which was a bonus. The only negative albeit minor was insufficient information re heating and water switches. All in all if you are looking for a slow, relaxing break in breathtaking countryside then this is the place for you!

Great quiet spot.
Great quiet spot. Lovely walks from the doorstep. Took all food and drink with us so didn’t need to be in contact with anyone and still had a great week. Had a little bit of trouble turning the heat down but didn’t ask the owners, I liked it but my husband not so much. If you book this place the laundry is next to the dog kennel opposite in case you can’t find it.

Quiet and secluded.
Quiet and secluded. Very clean and reasonably well equipped. Underfloor heating was very efficient so the log burner didn't come into play. Lovely walks especially across the moors.

Lovely barn conversion.
Lovely barn conversion. Very clean. Friendly staff on the farm. A bit off the beaten track so need to stock up on essential items as it is three miles to the road and then around another five miles to nearest town.

Great holiday in a fabulous location.
Great holiday in a fabulous location. Local amenities are what you would imagine, given the remote location - a car will be essential. Equipment is a bit lacking, where a fridge-freezer would be helpful and something more than a portable TV in the lounge would have been welcome. The barn is, however, warm, comfortable & welcoming. Enjoy!
