Perfect Cozy Cottage
Wonderful cottage in the most perfect location. Close to everything and across from museum gardens which are lovely. Super host who certainly goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is amazing. Absolutely loved coming home to this cozy cottage after spending the day exploring York.

Family of 8 over Easter Weekend
Absolutely lovely property, perfect location(close enough to everything but still quiet, low traffic). We visited from the US, traveling from Newcastle by rail- a short walk to and from the station. The cottage is in perfect condition and accommodated our family ranging from 4 to 75... grocery store up the end of the street allowed us to prepare meals at home and visit sites around York at our leisure. We could not be more happy with the experience!

We recently stayed at 58 Marygate for 3 nights. We were a group of 6 ladies whose ages ranged from 42 years- 72 years. The house can sleep up to 8, however we felt this would have been a squeeze in the living areas if there were 8 adults, (would be fine with small children however). The location is perfect! We walked into the centre of York in less than 10 minutes, and there is a lovely pub on Marygate which has a fabulous atmosphere so this quickly became’our local’ during our stay. There is also a Sainsbury’s local at the top of Marygate which was handy. Our only slight niggle was the main bathroom was very cold, and could really benefit from an extra heat source in there. We also struggled to override the programmed temperature and set times for the central heating, but we could have quite easily contacted the host to rectify this but we chose not too. Both twin rooms lacked robes, and as we found the house became quite cold in the evenings, these would have been handy for all of our group to use, but there are plenty of blankets provided so utilised those instead. We really loved our stay here, and will definitely stay here again in the future.

Thank you for your lovely review. I could have easily sorted all your points in 5 minutes without being seen! Please always contact me, that’s what I’m here for! The robes are under the beds. The heating controls on the radiators needed turning up, not just the main control. The main bathroom needed the vent closing. These things weren’t done because I wasn’t expecting the temperatures to drop to freezing. I appreciate your feedback, thank you.

Weekly stay at Marygate Cottage
We love it at 58 Marygate. It is a perfect base in York. Louise is an exceptional host where nothing is too much trouble. The cottage is exceptionally clean and tidy. We are a family of six and there is plenty of room. This is the second time we have stayed and should we choose to stay in York again, this cottage will again be considered for our holiday.

Beautiful home and wonderful location
This home was the perfect spot for our visit to York. The Minster and Shambles were easy walks through the beautiful Museum Gardens and the Abbey ruins were just across the street. Shops were just up the block including a Sainsburys which was very handy to have close by. The home is quite charming with a well equipped kitchen and a nice sitting room where we could all gather in the evening.

Wow! Location!
Property was great, but the location was the show stopper. We loved the beautiful view and the close proximity to the museum gardens. Easy walk to the train station and lovely trek through the gardens to all of the shops, eateries, and attractions. Wonderful hostess and good communication.

Beautiful cottage close to everything
What a gorgeous place to stay in York. A short walk across the park brings you right to the heart of the city. The cottage is extremely comfortable with modern amenities alongside lots of original features. We really enjoyed meeting up with family here. Thanks Louise!

Excellent from start to finish
Our host was always helpful with queries, was quick with responses and left a good range of basic supplies. The location was exceptional - close to the central parts of York, near the river. Accommodations were of very good quality and added touches were thoughtful and greatly appreciated. Overall, our impressions were very positive indeed. A comfortable and high quality rental!

Our daughters wedding and reception venue was The Hospitium in the Museum Gardens. We could not have picked a better location - literally at the gates of the venue. There is also amazing access to the train station via a pedestrian bridge over the river if arriving by train. The cottage itself is incredibly updated while still retaining its old world charm. Comfy beds. Well appointed kitchen and bathrooms. The cottage ialso provides easy access to the city center .

This was a perfect place to stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Perfect location, comfortable set up. It is a bit awkward to get to the back patio and trash through a bedroom, but we worked that out. Nicely stocked with essentials, and a lovely gift basket upon arrival. We were all completely pleased with this property. The hostess was very responsive to all queries. Top rate!

Family visit to York
This is a great unit in the center of York. The unit has been upgraded with high-end appliances, bedding and bathroom/kitchen fixtures. Comfortable beds. Two very good sized rooms. The other two bedrooms were a tighter squeeze, but got the job done. The stairway and some of the doorways were quite narrow, but I guess that is to be expected from these types of houses. Overall, a great unit. Very happy with it.

Spotlessly clean cottage full of character
I was nervous about going on holiday and staying somewhere other than my home at this time but I need not have worried! The cottage was spotlessly clean and Louise had taken all the government advice into account and provided plenty of information about the check in and check out procedure before we arrived. The bed linen and towels were of a very high quality and immaculate. I did bring my own just in case but didn’t need them! The kitchen was very well equipped and the oven fantastic- much better than mine at home! It meant we weren’t forced to eat out every day. M&S walking distance plus Sainsbury’s Local and Sainsbury’s did a delivery timed to arrive just after we did. The location is fantastic - the river at the bottom of the street to walk along, Museum Gardens across the (not busy) road, everything in fact walking distance. A great break! We would come back to stay here.

Wonderful updated historic home
Or stay at Marygate was the last of three stays vacationing in England and France. We definitely saved the best for last! The hosts are very helpful and responsive. The home is fabulous. The location is almost great. It's really convenient, but the road is a bit busy with foot traffic late at night. I'm guessing pub patrons as many were quite loud. It was very warm while there so we needed the windows open which I'm sure caused it to be so noticable. I'd still stay again because we liked the home and handy location so much. We walked from the rail and to everything around town. I stayed in a house a lot older than my country - that's pretty cool!

Perfect!

We all enjoyed our week in this beautiful property which has been made comfortable and welcoming without losing its charm and character. It was lovely to open every door and find just what we'd hoped for and more including some tasty treats in the gift box. The location is perfect with the museum gardens across the road and then all of York.

An amazing find in a beautiful city
We had a wonderful time celebrating a family birthday at this fabulous house. The attention to detail is amazing including the welcome pack on arrival, the quality of the decor and furniture, the comfy beds and the fluffy towels. It was everything that Louise said it was. Very positive with no nasty surpriises.
We all had a wonderful time in York. The house was very well equipped. Clean and comfortable. It is so convenient to all the amenities in York. York is a great place to go for Christmas and we packed in a lot of activities in our week’s stay. We were a group of various ages, very young to quite old and the house worked for us all. Louise put up a lovely Christmas tree which was a nice touch and very much appreciated by all, especially the ten year old. We all would recommend the Warman’s house.

Lovely House in a Great Location.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to York to celebrate our son’s 40th birthday. The house is in a great location and we didn’t miss having a car with us as everywhere was within easy walking distance. The house itself was super clean and comfortable. Special mention for the quality of the beds, pillows and bedding. Makes such a difference when you get a good nights sleep! Great communication with the owner Louise. Highly recommended.

Perfect spot

Erholsamer Urlaub in einem historischen Haus
Wir verlebten zwei Wochen in diesem historischen Haus mit 5 Menschen. Historisch bedeutet auch schiefe Fußböden, hohe Stufen und keine Doppelfenster, was tagsüber doch zu einer hohen Lärmbelästigung führt, da der Weg zu einem großen Parkplatz am Haus vorbeigeht. Nachts ist es ruhig. Das Haus ist größtenteils sauber. Die Möblierung in den Schlafzimmern ist auf das Nötigste beschränkt, so gibt es kaum Stühle, um Kleidung abzulegen. Sehr störend empfanden wir das Fehlen von Toilettenbürsten. Der Kontakt zur sehr netten Vermieterin funktionierte sehr gut, wir mussten nie lange auf eine Antwort warten. Die Schlüsselübergabe klappte sehr gut, wir durften bei unserer vorfristigen Ankunft sogar schon unser Gepäck einstellen. Für Autofahrer kommen hohe Zusatzkosten zur Hausmiete hinzu, da leider kein Parkplatz zum Haus gehört. Der öffentliche Parkplatz ist zwar gleich um die Ecke, kostet aber pro Tag 13 Pfund.

Clever marriage of comfortable charm with the practical. The best holiday house in York.
We wanted a house in York that would take eight adults in four rooms, with good facilities where we could cook and as near to being like home as we could get. This Marygate house fulfills every need. It is in itself a masterpiece of conversion from a small artisan style cottage, to an up to date comfortable, charming, modern, town house, where everthing works. There is a danger in decorating and furnishing a house like this, of it becoming bland and loosing character. Remarkably this has not happened here and the marriage between comfort, charm and practicality, is pretty near perfect. All the main facilities of York are within easy walking distance and the view of the Museum Garden's medieval entrance from the sitting room a delight. Under-floor heating in the kitchen made walking around barefoot on a snowy January day, a quirky delight. Our planned joint celebration of 160 years and nearly 60 years of marriage, could not have been better placed, both for us, our children and their children. Thank you so much.

Comfortable, well equipped and characterful
This property is extremely central so all the main tourist areas are within easy walking distance- crucial given the traffic problems in York! The house is very comfortable and well equipped, although I would not recommend it for those with any mobility issues as the stairs are quite steep and narrow and there are low doorways. The Christmas tree was a lovely touch! It would have scored 5* if there had been parking as an extra £10-12 a day per car adds up.

Great stay and house in York
Our family (my wife, 19 y/o daughter and 16 y/o son) stayed in this home in July 2017. The house is lovely and has ample space, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The location is extremely convenient to medieval York and all of the sights therein. I don't think any spot was more than a 15 minute walk away. The home itself is well appointed and very comfortable, and is very well updated. As an older house, there are some low ceilings and doorways, and I did have a few collisions at 6'2". However, I thought it was a small price to pay for such a nice and historic accommodation in the center of York.

Nice stay in York
Our stay in York was very enjoyable. We found the cottage attractive and clean, the beds comfortable, and the location wonderful! We were within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, attractions, and the train station. Having the Museum Gardens across the street was a lovely perk! Louise responded quickly to any emails, and left us a nice basket of snacks. We also enjoyed the flat screen tvs in the bedrooms. We had only one slight issue, the weather was exceptionally warm while we were visiting and the beds had rather substantial duvets. We would have loved lighter covers and/or separate sheets.

Fabulous, comfortable, lovely extras..
Beautiful decor, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, Netflix on TV. Greeted with lovely note from the owner with homemade cake, Box of goodies (prosecco, chocolate, crisps), milk in the fridge and basics like coffee and tea provided! Quality towels and bathrobes for all!!! Very close to town centre and shops and easy walking distance from train station - we travelled by train. We all had a brilliant time and information on website before handy too..
