Belem Tower is located in the town of Bethlehem, county and district of Lisbon in Portugal. On the right bank of the Tagus river, where there was once the beach of Bethlehem, it was originally surrounded by water around its perimeter. Over the centuries it was surrounded by the beach, even today incorporate the land. One of the "ex libris" of the city, the monument is an icon of architecture of the reign of Manuel I of Portugal, in a synthesis between the tradition menagemde medieval tower and baluartemoderno where it had artillery pieces. Over time the tower lost its defense function of the Tagus bar and, from the Philippine occupation, old barns gave way to the dungeons. In the four floors of the tower, remain the Governor's Room, the Sala dos Reis, Courtroom and finally the chapel with its features sixteenth century vaults.
