The house is a large old farmhouse with plenty of room for the eight of us with a lot of original features. It is not a modern property so kitchen and bathrooms are a bit basic with rough slate floors and no real heating. The kitchen is well equipped with everything that you need i.e. pots, pans, cutlery, plates etc. Some rooms were really hot and some had no heating at all. There are two wood burners but you have to buy wood for them. The radiators didn't come on until about 7.30 in the morning so if you got up early it was freezing cold. Also there are lots of steps between rooms which were difficult to see as most light bulbs seemed to be about 25 Watts so not good if you have small children or elderly adults. There is secondary glazing on most windows that doesn't open so windows have to remain shut also there are no door locks or where there are locks there are no keys supplied so you cannot lock the property.
The property is down a single track farm lane with no passing places about 1.5 miles long which had floods and a lot of mud and stones, so fine if you have a robust vehicle. Not the properties fault as it had rained a bit when we arrived, but if you have a low car then be warned.
We booked the property because it had a hot tub but it never worked the whole week that we were there. Two brothers seem to run the place and each time we complained we were told it must have been my brother that you spoke to, it will be working in the morning. We complained all week with a similar dialogue, once we were accused of fiddling with the switches which we did not and once were told that the hot tub repair man had been, but obviously was not up to the job, if he came at all. They were not twins and we could tell which brother that we were talking to. Also the games room had a soaking wet carpet through a water leak so we couldn't use it. Again nothing was done to attempt to dry it like a wet/dry vacuum cleaner or even an apology. The owners never came round to check if all was ok and they lived next door, we had to go and hunt them down to talk to them.
If you wanted a large old house with basic features and wanted to keep to yourself and took everything that you needed for the week then it would be fine. The nearest supermarket is about 9 miles away in Ilfracombe and the nearest pub about 2 miles away.
The owners need to fix a few things around the property and go on a customer service course.
