Just a short walk downhill is our private neighborhood marina on pristine Watauga Lake, where guests enjoy exclusive use of Boat Slip #6 along with two complimentary kayaks for exploring one of the cleanest and most beautiful lakes in the Southeast.
Designed for families and friends traveling together, Whispering Pines comfortably sleeps 8–10 guests and offers plenty of space to gather while still allowing everyone to spread out.

At nearly 4,500 feet in elevation, Whispering Pines sits above the crystal-clear waters of Watauga Lake, surrounded by the protected beauty of the Cherokee National Forest. Because so much of the shoreline is federally protected, you’ll enjoy spectacular mountain scenery without endless rows of lake houses and boat traffic. The result is an incredibly peaceful setting that’s becoming harder and harder to find.
The lake warms surprisingly early in the season, making swimming enjoyable from April through late October. Spend your days kayaking, boating, fishing, hiking, paddleboarding, or simply relaxing on the deck while taking in unforgettable sunsets.
Just a short walk from the cabin, the private marina and lakeside gazebo provide easy access to the water. If you’d like to explore the lake by boat, Fish Springs Marina can often deliver a rental boat directly to an available slip, or you’re welcome to bring your own.

Whispering Pines is just as magical during the winter months. Located within easy driving distance of Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, and Appalachian Ski Mountain, it’s an ideal home base for skiing, snowboarding, tubing, and cozy evenings by the fire.
Completed in 2009, the chalet was thoughtfully designed with distinctive architectural details, including natural driftwood accents and beautiful indoor and outdoor waterfalls that create a truly memorable mountain lodge experience.
