Un-satisfying

I was overly unimpressed by the service and condition of my stay. My room which looks straight into the street, had broken curtains, which did not close properly, the room smelt like mold and stale damp, so much so I went to buy air-freshener. There was also no forks or water in the room. The walls are so thin I could hear every movement of my neighbours, and this contributed to a disturbed sleep.

This was my most terrible experience thus far, and has visited many many countries and places. It is a backpackers, or hostel type of place at best. I felt unsafe, had no privacy, had three doors linked into my unit from the surrounding rooms, and I could hear every noise and breath of all the other units. Room services was said to be every over day with long stays, and those times servicing the room was skipped twice. The shower was terrible, the floor not sloped correctly for an open shower and the workmanship in the unit is sloppy and falling apart. Rails fall from the walls, and a fan were placed in the room with no plug that was a fit in any of the plugs in the room. I felt that anyone of the linked rooms, could at any time enter my unit and the street noises and surroundings were unsettling. I complained twice and no one of the staff even considered moving me to an inside unit within the guesthouse and not the outside units that was clearly for contract workers and long stay clients. Also when you are in the outside units, you would need to exit your unit walk across an unsafe street and prey that someone at the main house would open the door and help you. Even the main house had a security gate that was open all the time, but the front door gated, but everyone apparently knew to stick your arm into the gate opening and press the button on the inside to let yourself in. Quite common knowledge around there and in the vicinity. Surpassing terrible....

Short stay 5 nights break away

Overall the guesthouse is reasonably charged and Johan and staff very friendly and helpful. Checking in was quick and no fuss. We did not stay in the main guesthouse, but the self catering units across the road. 3 units with Room and then a small kitchenette and separate bathroom. We opted to have breakfast included in main guesthouse and this was good. Prepared fresh for each person separately The kitchen was equipped with 2 each of the basics. Nothing fancy at all. The setup can do with some improvements of adding a sharp utility knife as well as bread knife. It does have a microwave and small bar fridge. Bed was adequate, room only has one chair to sit. It can be improved if extra chair is added as one does not want to sit on the bed when in the unit. Patio and brain area in font of the room has table and chair. Area also has some burglar bars although they need improvement as the gaps in between are big enough as we had someone climb through them. For safety don’t leave anything unattended on patio. Also keep stuff away from windows if you leave them open as the street people can become nuisance. Area was safe overall.

Only stay in the bnb itself not the self catering

Loddey was very welcoming and attentive during our stay. The included breakfast was good. However, there are 2 parts to this Accomodation, the rooms in the bnb itself and then the self catering apartments across the road. Although we did not stay in the bnb rooms they appeared to be quite comfortable. We stayed in the self catering apartments which were not good at all. I don’t think they have been properly cleaned in years, the walls are paper thin so you will hear every move your neighbors make and, worst of all, they open onto the street so you are continually harassed by the local street folk whenever sitting on your patio. Burgled bars have been put up around the patios to keep these people at arms length, but this just gives you the feeling of being caged in. A wall needs to be built around the parking to separate the rooms from the street and eliminate this problem. But most of all the owners need to spend a few nights in each of the apartments themselves to really see what needs to be improved…many small, simple changes will go a long way to improving the overall comfort of the rooms.

When we arrived, Loddeys was experiencing some trouble with some plumbing so Johan upgraded us to one of their properties in the Beach House. It was very gracious of Johan and the Beach property was marvelous - clean, spacious and a wonderful place to stay. Thanks Johan. We had a great stay at Loddeys.

Vi bodde i en s.k. Comfort studio i juli, då det är vinter i Sydafrika. Tyvärr var det alldeles för kallt i denna studio och det lilla elementet hjälpte inte. Badrummet var nyrenoverat och inga problem med varmvatten. Personalen var hjälpsam och trevlig. I bokningen stod det att kontinental frukost samt vatten ingår, detta var inte fallet. Vi åkte väldigt tidigt nästföljande morgon så det spelade mindre roll. Säkert är upplevelsen annorlunda under sommarmånaderna.

All the Staff were cheerful, kind, helpful, and efficient. Our room was lovely and had comfy bed. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice. A nice garden/ patio area to sit out and enjoy the sun plus a cool shaded area. The manager will arrange car hire for you or a driver if needed.

Great place to stay in Strand

Stayed in the self-catering apartment across the street from their main location this time. It was a bit louder from street noise, and not as handy to breakfast, but more space and a private patio, so it all worked out. The rooms in the main Lodge are smaller but lovely, and the staff is fantastic either way.

We got a warm welcome, but our room was very small without a window and the shower was dirty. There was some other quests that was very noisy during the night so we didn´t get much sleep. They also ate all the breakfast, so we had to wait for at least 30 minutes for our breakfast. The staff was very friendly though.

We had a small issue with our booking not showing up, but the manager sorted us out very quickly. The room and rest of the house is very comfortable. We had a very short stay so we couldnt make use of it all, but I would definitely want to go for a longer stay.

Next time you are in Strand - I recommend Loddeys

The Host and Mandu where fantastic. I felt like I had been there forever. It was awesome and I loved the idea of the honesty bar - it just makes all feel like we are one! if that makes sense. I felt welcomed from the moment I stepped in and the Breakfast were hearty , awesome and well balanced.
