  • Today was our first #lksawaydays of 2020 #ukoutandabout We left Reading and headed out to the Wiltshire village of Avebury to have a walk around the Neolithic henge, visit the museum and have some lunch in the Red Lion. Its been over 20 years since the LKs last visited so were looking forward to re-visiting. There are no charges to walk amongst the stones which make up the largest megalithic stone circle in the world, but there are separate charges for the museum and the Avebury Manor. The main car park is £4 for the day but not very big considering the volume of visitors Avebury sees, so if you visit we would suggest outside peak months. The purpose of the the stone circle is unknown but its believed to be a ritual complex, the site is a sacred site to the contemporary Pagans and if you are lucky on your visit you may see Druidic rites taking place. Its a pleasant half day and if the weather is a little moody it can add to the visit too! #avebury #aveburystones #stones #stonecircle

We celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary at the cottage so our friends and family could visit us by train and get to us easily from Heathrow, London and Oxford As my husband is on pd dialysis every thing has to be super clean, and The Bothy was up to scratch. We loved our stay and intend to return

Perfect location and lovely property for both couples or families.

Perfect location and lovely property for both couples or families. Really lovely cottage and easy to get to places e.g. Blenheim, Oxford (we drove to Didcot station and took the train). So peaceful and relaxing we had an amazing family holiday going out and about during the day and playing board games in the evening. A lovely little village, Blewbury, nearby and worth a stroll. There are local pubs to eat at both in Upton and Blewbury and plenty of places nearby if you are happy to drive. Owners were really friendly and the wine, chocolates, milk, tea and coffee etc were lovely extras. The cottage had everything you needed and was very spacious. The outside space was perfect for a lunch/dinner/snooze in the sun. Would definitely recommend.

We had a great time at The Bothy.

We had a great time at The Bothy. The place is even better than the pictures. The views over the orchard and the surroundings are beautiful. You can talk a walk from your doorstep and discover the area. The house was very clean and spacious. And our son had a great time playing in the garden and the tree house. We highly recommend this place.
