The gate was built by order of the Emperor Augustus, the military leader who became the first emperor of the Roman Empire, and commemorates the victory of the powerful Roman Army during the Battle of Metauro. While touring Fano, see examples of its artworks. Stop at the Museo Archeologico e Pinacoteca del Palazzo Malatestiano di Fano (Archeological Museum and Art Gallery) inside the Malatestiano Palace.
