"A great location by the river which is good for swimming. Full of interesting mill workings but a very comfortable house. Off grid electrics so the cooking facilities are a bit limited. In an isolated but beautiful valley and good walking paths ."

The host was very responsive to an issue I created when I locked the keys inside! "We spent a lovely week here in September. The apartment was clean and comfortable, with a terrace overlooking olive groves and hillsides. Marga was a delight, providing us with tomatoes, peppers and water melon from her garden. She gave us lots of useful info about places to go and see. We enjoyed walking in the valleys, and always found somewhere to swim. Most villages, including Horcajo, have a 'piscina naturale' and we also came across river pools up in the valleys. "We chose this for an overnight stop, with our pet furry friend, on our way from Santander to Portuguese Silver Coast. Pet friendly and self-catering appealed to us. The communication and the welcome to the lovely property, from Sandra, was exceptional. She went out of her way to show us the accommodation and walk us through the pretty village to the local restaurant, telling us a little about the place as we went. The property is immaculate and very cosy with everything you need for a short stay. We would have happily stayed longer and will certainly visit again. The staff at the restaurant were lovely too and the food was excellent and worth the little extra we paid. It's not the cheapest Portuguese restaurant but quite a surprising find in such a small village. We can recommend the steak and the bacalhau. We were very happy with our stay and will return there on our homeward journey. Thank you for the kindness and the welcome we received. "
