This historic hotel is in excellent condition. My room and the common areas were spotlessly clean and very well maintained, and the building is 150 years old! I absolutely loved my room, and the staff were all so nice and helpful. Parking was easy and safe. I can't say enough about this charming, historic gem! I've already booked a return visit.

What a wonderful hotel! So much charm and character with all the comfort and amenities of a "modern" hotel. Our room in a repurposed 1800s home across the parking lot from the hotel proper was small, but quiet and lovely. The complementary breakfast was delicious, and the the vibe and bluegrass music in the "Saloon" was so fun and lively. Also, Kim, who greeted us at the front desk, is such a helpful, delightful person.

We stayed at the Holbrooke for a birthday/Valentines getaway weekend and were thoroughly impressed by the service and the amenities! The tasting menu special dinner course was phenomenal and one of the best meals we’ve ever experienced. The ambience of the hotel and the local area was so charming and unique. The only minor hiccup we had was the original room we were placed in was right next to a side exit door that slammed very loudly whenever someone entered or exited. Because of that, we slept very poorly the first night due to guests going in and out at all hours. When we asked the front desk the next morning if there was any possibility to change rooms, we were at first told the hotel was fully booked so they were unable to move us. We asked once more after dinner if there was anything they could do and that time we were told they actually did have another room, but it was an upgrade from our current room and we would have to pay the difference in price. We were admittedly a bit disappointed to have to pay to change rooms, especially after the front desk disclosed they hear the complaint about the slamming door fairly often from guests placed near it. But upon checking out, we were very pleasantly surprised to hear we would actually not be charged for the room change so we have zero complaints overall! We will definitely come back and stay at the Holbrooke again! Thank you for an amazing experience and the wonderful service!

Just fantastic. Remodeled just a few years ago, the hotel retains all it's historic ambiance with wonderful improvements that make it so comfortable and welcoming. Staff fantastic, location unbeatable, balcony room just magical. Great stay.

Staff was welcoming especially the front desk lady (sorry I forgot her name). The place is a wonderful mix of original old time and updated amenities. We ate in the restaurant and had the chef’s dinner with the parings. It was delicious and generous. Our waiter was attentive and full of knowledge about the building, food and wine. A great getaway.

There was no bar. No closet. No place to store clothing. The room was tiny. The sink was at the foot of the bed, not in the bathroom. When we checked in, I happily mentioned that I was familiar with the hotel as I had several very nice previous stays, and Kim, the receptionist said, “we don’t know who you are and we don’t keep track of who stays here.” This was on Christmas Day! The next day, it was raining heavily, and when I asked for a hotel umbrella, another receptionist told me they don’t have umbrellas “because people would steal them.” Hello, here’s a missed marketing opportunity and a guest insult all at once. My daughter owns a ranch in Penn Valley and I live in France, until this visit, the Holbrooke was my go to place to stay when I visit. Not anymore.

Everything was beautiful, delicious and comfortable. 4 stars because we did not have hot water in our room for shower the followingmorning. I'm sure it was not anticipated, but...a bit chilly in December 😎. Love the folks and this venue. We will be back to stay and of coyrse enjoy this historical hotel. Ps, no ghosties this trip!

The radio was a nice touch to sitting on the private deck in the sunshine; surprisingly, there was no television available. Hotel employees were friendly and competent, although there were none anywhere in the lobby when we checked out an hour earlier before the deadline. Grass Valley is a wonderful walking city and we felt refreshed upon leaving. Hotel restaurant looked good but the menu was a bit expensive while the entrees didn't excite.
