  • We spent yesterday arvo bush-bashing down to the Zig Zag Railway viaducts above Lithgow, NSW and looking around the place for a few hours. In this shot you can see the No. 1 Viaduct on the Top Road track. A little further down is the larger No. 2 Viaduct. And on the Bottom Road (which is the train line near the bottom of this pic) is the No. 3 Viaduct. Comprising rock cuttings, classical sandstone viaducts and tunnels, the Lithgow Zig Zag was, and remains to this day, a magnificent piece of engineering. Construction of this part of the rail system began in 1866 and was completed by the late 1890s. The line was decommissioned in 1910 with the construction of the Ten Tunnels deviation which is still in use today by state rail. Back in the early 1970s, volunteers worked to bring the line back into operation as an iconic tourist railway which ran for decades, bringing with it tourism dollars to the wider Lithgow area. In 2013, a huge bushfire swept through the area and destroyed a lot of the infrastructure and equipment used by the Zig Zag Railway. Since that day work has proceeded to slowly bring the tourist train line back into operation It is hoped it'll be up and running again in the next year or so. Loved our stay here. A perfect bookend to 7 months on the road. It was a cold couple of days and the great supply of firewood was much appreciated. Beautiful location, wildlife (Echidna outside our door) Host were full of information. We will come again🙂

Beauty everywhere. Quiet. Simple. Coulf have a little more cooking utensils. Frying pan bigger no lid ....as there is no oven. Otherwise absolute lovely.

Great property, facilities and supplies were very good. Our main issue was the bunk beds do not have much head height on the lower bunk, and we could not use the top bunks for the kids as the safety rails only just reached the top of the mattress and they would fall out if rolled in the night. Otherwise very happy with the cabin and hosts.

The views were simply beautiful. Our family was sad to leave and we're planning to return. The sunrises were just incredible while the wallabies brought much joy to our grandsons. So quiet and homely.

We stayed here when we visited Jenolan Caves. The location is great. Only around 15 min drive to the top car park. I love the view from the cabin. The fire place is amazing in winter. It is very clean. I love everything about it. I will definitely recommend it. It is not expensive to book at all. If there is anything which can be improved, I would say maybe a new oven and a bigger TV.

De huisjes zijn mooi, schoon en liggen prachtig. Helaas boekten we iets te vroeg in het seizoen (1e week november). Het was erg koud en het houtkacheltje is te klein om de vrieskou goed buiten te houden. Let op: de winkels liggen op een half uur rijden

The property was very clean& well kept.Staff were very friendly. The only thing missing was the unavailability of a fire pit to enjoy a night fire. The excuse was that the staff were afraid of causing a bushfire however there was little chance of that after massive rains.
