Kodiak Awesome View Vacation Rentals: The Captains Quarters

Owners Mike and Gina Friccero welcome you to the Awesome View Vacation Rentals experience. Featuring the work of local artist Alvin Amason, this is the perfect accommodation for the traveling executive, romantic couple or family.
This efficiency has private parking/entry, with Ocean Views that are unbeatable. Upstairs Captains Quarters has separate Shower and private Loo, Enjoy ocean front views from your own private deck. Walking distance from town, museums shopping and restaurants. Good viewing for birds, sea lions and the occasional Killer Whale Pod. Lovely sunrises over the ocean, but remember this is the land of the midnight sun! Bring a sleep mask if overly light sensitive. Recommended to bring warm clothes even in summer. Lightweight rain gear is a good thing to include in your pack.
Children are welcome. Our home is on a park strip that offers plenty of room for kids to run and play. Within walking distance of public pool, High School and the bridge to Near Island.
Please note: We are no longer a B&B and do not provide food service. We no longer have Cable TV but room has wifi and streaming device.
We don't feel this space is large enough for three adults, unless it's a family with a young or adult child. Please note: this is a room, not an apartment and has a queen and single bed.

Nice little get away spot. View was beautiful, beds and shower comfortable. We would have benefited from a pearing knife to cut our bagel and apple. One other suggestion is a taller faucet in one of the sinks to better wash dishes and fill water bottles. Great spot! I would highly recommend!

Super easy check-in. Interesting use of space, with a Beautiful View of the channel and smaller islands. We so enjoyed sitting on the deck, enjoying the view and being surrounded by salmon berries and spruce. My grandparents had a house 1/2 mile down Mission Road in the 60’s and 70’s.The Captains Quarter’s is a comfortable updated efficiency that I highly recommend!

Such a nice room - well appointed and tastefully decorated, with a comfortable bed and a relaxing view of Near Island Channel. The Captain’s Quarters had a dedicated parking space along the road, and a separate entrance that is clearly marked. Easy to find and easy to access (provided that a few stairs are not a limitation). The hosts are responsive to questions sent through the Expedia app, but not invasive or otherwise bothersome. I enjoyed my 3-night stay and would absolutely consider staying there again in the future.

Amazing views, great location and the host is very helpful. We wanted to go on a hike and she let us borrow some bear spray. Luckily, we did not need it but made us feel better.
We would see three to six sea lions almost every morning and evening,

This was the perfect location, easy walking distance to the town. Could spend hours sitting on the balcony and watching boats and wildlife go by. Just lovely.

Amazing view

This place has such an amazing view. Very comfortable place to wake up in. Have the best view to sit and have a cup of coffee and start your day. The only thing I would change is maybe a little bit more soundproofing from the clients downstairs. The first evening there were some louder clients downstairs. Understandably there's nothing the host can really do about it. Just unfortunate some people are louder than others.

Staying at Capitans Quarters was so much fun as we could see the fishing boats coming in an out. The place is very nice and cozy and close to restaurants and other activities. My husband and I certainly enjoyed it.

The check in process is the easiest there is. We were extremely happy with the views and the cleanliness of our rental. The only negative I can say is we didn't get to spend more time there. We will definitely be booking this place many more times.

Stay: 3 nights, late July Who: couple, late 40s Rating: 3-4 stars POSITIVES: - Clean! - Host is quick to respond and to addresses your concerns. - Location is great (easy, safe ~15 min walk to downtown Kodiak, quick drive to Safeway/Walmart and ~9-10 mins drive to ADQ). - Parking is super-convenient to your unit. - The view is nice but, even better, the back"yard" is really quiet/serene so sitting on the balcony is peaceful. NEGATIVES: - Really odd floor layout which is not at all conducive to privacy, convenience, relaxing or even really enjoying the view (from indoors). - Noise from downstairs units undermines privacy. Owners live right downstairs and we often heard them speaking loudly on speaker phone. This constant reminder that there are people through a very thin floor took away our sense of privacy. Also, we could hear lots of noise from the rental unit directly below. Someone was banging/slamming and dragging things early on Saturday morning; Host's unapologetic response: "Probably downstairs guests scrambling for airport". It ruined our Saturday morning. - No shade/curtain on large glass panel on front door so anyone that walks up to the unit can see straight into your space through to balcony. - Furniture is uncomfortable: deck chairs are for sitting (not relaxing), mini sleeper sofa takes up a huge amount of floorspace but not comfortable for sitting (it slopes weirdly), rolling kitchen countertop too crowded to be used as a table, mattress is too soft.

Great Views!

Small place, just enough for two adults. The views are gorgeous and the parking is quite convenient. Very clean and cozy. Communication with the host was efficient. We really enjoyed our stay!
