The listing is a little deceiving, it makes it look as if there are four separate rooms - there are not. It is basically one studio apartment room with four different beds, the singles being twin sized. The place itself felt not very clean and sometimes there was a weird gross smell that sat in the air. The directions on the page are not accurate so make sure to reach out to the host and ask for the proper address.

The Expedia map shows the property just north of Gion-Shijo. It is just north of Kiyomizu-Gojo, the next stop south of Gion-Shijo. Many trains don’t stop at Kiyomizu-Gojo. The rental is approximately 3 blocks north and 2 blocks east of Kiyomizu-Gojo, about a 10 minute walk with suitcases. It is a studio apartment with 4 beds & partial kitchen, without a fridge. Is inexpensive, not as comfortable as a Toyoko Inn. I had a good fried rice at the small restaurant directly below the rental.

We expected the accommodations to be simple but we at least expected it to be clean. Unfortunately it was not clean. There was a lot of dust under the beds, on the tv, on the shelves where the dishes were, on the toilet. There was mold on the shower curtain. The sink did not look like it had been wiped and cleaned prior to our arrival. There were hairs in the bathroom still. Once bed was an unmade mattress and uncovered, stained pillows. Simple is acceptable. Unclean is not.

This machiya townhouse is very close to some of the must-see spots, including Kiyomizudera, Gion geisha district, and the incredible Nishiki Shotengai. There are lots of LUUP bike/scooter pickup/dropoff zones in the area to make getting around super easy. The train stations are nearby, and it's easy to get to Arashiyama as well.The room itself was perfect for two adults. It's charming and cozy, and the water pressure in very good. There is space underneath the 2 single beds and the 1 set of bunkbeds for storage if you do come with more than 2 people.We loved our stay in Kyoto and would definitely stay here again if we come back!

Its cheap but, can hear noodle shop below so day sleep could be an issue.. also at 4am a ton of noise from shop opening accross the st! Bathroom is tiny, barely fit in. floor is slanted. Its a makeshift apt and is an option during tourist surges to city prices which make this a fallback

Klein aber feines Apartment welches gut angebunden im Herzen von Kyoto liegt. Das einzige Problem ist der Gastgeber kann nur Japanisch aber das wichtigste bekommt man mit dem Übersetzer hin.

It was closed to many restaurants and the area felt safe. There were a lot a shops around it.

This is the community where we stayed. Across the street there’s a farmers market and restaurant. Loved it!

Something weird freaked me out.

This is a great place, very difficult to find, delicious food downstairs. I left early and the landlord gave some money back because I don't think people are supposed to walk around freely in the room you've rented while you are out. I would never bring my young son or leave valuables in a place where people can just enter. Too high a risk. The only reason I even know is because he refilled the dish soap. I didn't like that. Other than that the neighborhood is beautiful, I fell in love with the kamo river which is very close.

Lovely ryokan

We loved our stay at Gion Ryokan! The staff were so lovely, the bed pads were comfortable, and we enjoyed having access to a full kitchen. The location is amazing- right in the beautiful old district and just down the street from multiple temples and shrines! Short walk to amazing food options too!

This place was small but had 4 beds. In the ad, it said 4 bedrooms, but that may have been a translation error. WThe space was spotless and in a great location.We had some trouble finding it as the host's information did not match Google maps but she meanswered our messages quickly and we found the place using her directions and not googles ( who had a different name for the nearest train station). It was expensive for the size but considering the time of year and location not too bad.

The address listed was not the accurate address and it took us a while to find the actual location, however the host was very responsive and helpful. Aside from the confusion in the beginning, it was a very nice place for just two people.

Had trouble finding the place, unfortunately had to purchase a hotel because it was getting late. The address on expedia and vrbo are incorrect it seems. Host was very helpful, and found it with extra instructions. It is above a udon noodle shop called “Keage” on google, so its best to keep quite. A 2 minute walk is “Daikoku-yu,” a sauna which I highly recommend!
