Amazing location!
My family of 4 visited La Jolla for a few nights, and the highlight of this property was its location. The property is literally steps from La Jolla shores beach, and set in a quiet residential neighborhood. The home was filled with floor to ceiling windows, with a clear view of the beach from the front porch. The home was clean and tidy, and all the beds were made with fresh linens. The home was generously sized for a family of 3 adults and 1 teen, and had good outdoor spaces to enjoy time outside. Great value for the price, but a few things would have made our stay a five star rating. While the home included fresh towels, we would have appreciated more clean towels to reduce our laundry over 5 days. The property is in dire need of updates: abundance of rust, chipping paint, open hole in the kitchen ceiling, lack of proper shower ventilation, torn fabric on bunk beds, aged appliances to name a few. A little TLC goes a long way in making guests feel “at home” while being so far away from home.

Great location but pricey
Overall this was a very nice older home in an upscale neighborhood. Location was amazing! Very quiet and peaceful. Great patio area for people watching in the front facing the beach and a large area in the back yard with a hot tub. Short walk to La Jolla Beach and walkable to the town (1.7 miles). Too many fees added to the price made it expensive. The place was clean, but there were some small details that showed the age. Everything worked that we used so no complaints about that.

Fantastic Property
We loved this property and all the appointments. After a little challenge getting in (we had plenty of on time support by the staff), we were thrilled with the cleanliness, many entertainment spaces, toys for kids, and well appointed kitchen. The location is of course impossible to surpass (and I know because I live in LJ!). I had my family staying here during Christmas and everything was delightful. Highly recommend this property!

Stayed here for a little beach staycation. Absolutely gorgeous location!! Lots of seating both inside and out. Be very cautious of street sweeping signs as welcome book is not up to date with accurate information.

Stay for the location, not much else
Location of the property is perfect, which is why we booked it but unfortunately that was the highlight of the stay. The house is very much dated with fixtures and outdoor overhangs tearing and everything is rusting. The property has a insect infestation. Flies were all around the property as well as inside, a few days into the stay there were maggots crawling all over the kitchen floor while making breakfast. After calling the management company all they did was send a pest control person 2 days later to spray the inside of the house which we declined since he have small children. There are no cleaning supplies in the home and after requesting some to clean up the maggots it was never brought to us. Additionally there are crickets surrounding the property and also inside the home. A few were in the kitchen and chirped all night long, and all of them outside made it impossible to hear the ocean at night which was a selling point to stay there. Lastly the refrigerator made a hellacious noise that woke us up in the middle of the night, they sent someone out to take a look at it and could not fix it so they unplugged it and we used the extra refrigerator in the garage which was fine albeit inconvenient. It is not worth what you pay after everything is said and done, easy to get past the dated house but the incidents of our stay made it uncomfortable and disgusting.

Our local manager noted that due to our home's proximity to the ocean, it is almost impossible to avoid rust; however, they make sure to paint all the rusted areas every month to prevent damage. As for the pest infestation, we apologize for the flies you saw in the house and appreciate you reporting this so our team could offer to resolve it. We're glad to report that since your stay, the issue has been remedied and will continue to be monitored as a top priority. The coil in the refrigerator was frozen and has been defrosted and no further noise is being made. Great Location
The location is great. A street off the beach with a view of the ocean from the front porch. The area is fantastic. Short walk down to Avenida De La Playa which has a selection of places to eat. The area and the beach are the best. The house was clean and had tons of space. Backyard has plenty of area to spread out. No bathrooms on the main floor was strange. Check in was easy.

This is a fantastic property. Very clean and very large. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating areas. Would definitely stay here again. Can't beat the beach access and 4 spaces of off-street parking. Will definitely stay here again.

Needs immediate updating and proper fixes
When the chandelier is held together by a bungee cord and a zip tie… Do you know the care factor of the property owner is minimal. The location is great but the house was not what we had expected.

uniquely beautiful!
the house, the location, the backyard and the hot tube are wonderful. We have enjoyed the 2 weeks very much, also our son with family! the house was clean, well equipped, some of the garden furniture was a bit outdated ... but that did not bother us in the least. the only negative was the cooking stove .. we are from Europe and we really like to cook at home a lot ... unfortunately the stove worked very badly and would need to be replaced. luckily there was a well working BBQ in the garden, so we used that one instead. Anna, the house manager from Vacasa, was very helpful .. thank you Anna! we were very happy in this wonderful spot and would love to come back anytime! Annamarie & family from Switzerland

Family spring break
Great location!! Walking distance to beach and restaurants with beautiful views. The pain was the tankless water heater going out and having to go downstairs multiple times a day to reset it whenever anybody wanted to shower and the upstairs guest bathroom the faucet handles you have to turn real tight for water to turn off or it will slowly run constantly if you aren’t paying attention to it. Overall very clean, very quiet, peaceful neighborhood. We would stay again with a few fixes being addressed.

Great house with so much character and great views
This was such a cute house!!! We enjoyed the fireplace and the jacuzzi everyday. The front porch has a nice view of La Jolla shores. We loved the enclosed back yard for the kids to play safely. It has a very indoor outdoor feeling with all the doors that open to the outdoor spaces. It was very roomy for two families. I love the character of this house. It has a grandmas house feel to it but in a good way. Loved the master bathroom!!! We would come again for sure. Great house. Cleanliness could have been a little better and beds could have been a little comfier, but it was fine. I loved leaving the windows open and falling asleep to crashing waves every night. Worth renting!

Absolutely adorable place. Very nice location across from the park and beach. Nicely stocked with serve ware, grill, needed some new pans ( warped) but made do. Had a fabulous time and management was very responsive. Hpoe we can come back in the future.

Perfect location right across from La Jolla shores. Amazing shaded back porch with separate hot tub area. Overall an incredible vacation house. The only possible improvement would be new mattresses. The master bedroom mattress was so hard it hurt to lay on and the guest bedroom mattress sinks in the middle.

This is our second time to this property. Excellent location and excellent support. We noticed the grill was not in good shape. Management had a new one there and set it up within 24 hours. We loved it and plan on a third stay.

We had a wonderful time at this property. I would totally stay here again if in San Diego. If you want a walkable relaxing beach location, look no further. The house was a bit dated, but nothing beats the location.

We had an amazing time vacationing and visiting colleges. We were able to walk everywhere…beach, shops, restaurants, aquarium. The house was very clean, beds were comfortable and the kids loved the hot tub. We are also right next to UCSD, which made it perfect for visiting. You really can’t beat this location.

By the Sea is a Wonderful Place To Stay
As many of the reviews have mentioned, the location of this home is wonderful. So close to the beach we were able to just go back to the house to use the bathroom or get something we needed. The beach is safe with lifeguards and it wasn't overly crowded. The garage is such a nice feature for parking as well as bringing home sandy beach tents, chairs and toys. The home was clean and roomy, a great open feel with many doors that open up to the outside. The home is walking distance from a great playground for kids as well as the little village of La Jolla Shores, this was so nice because once you are there you can just relax and not have to worry about driving anywhere if you don't want to. A couple of minor items, the hot tub was not usable during our stay because it was really sandy and smelled really gross. We went during the week and were there the day the pool guy was there and he said that it typically gets like that after the weekend. He comes every Thursday. Also, some of the door handles come off when you are trying to open the doors to the outside, and the appliances could stand to be updated, although all in working order. Very minor items considering the location and the wonderful outdoor living and layout and cleanliness of the house. Also to note, there is a fridge in the garage also so if you have extra stuff, that comes in really handy. The street the house is on can be busy and there are many cars parked up and down the road so make sure to watch littles closely as you cross over to the beach, sometimes it is difficult to see cars coming because of the street being lined with cars. With that said, the neighborhood is very nice and there are many homes that have been fully renovated and are beautiful, it felt very safe and the people we encountered were all very friendly. We love La Jolla Shores and By the Sea, we will be coming back later in the year to stay longer.

Perfection at La Jolla Shores
My family (with 4 kids) has stayed at this house a few times now. La Jolla Shores is our favorite SoCal spot, and this particular house is our favorite spot in La Jolla Shores. The location cannot be beat being right across the street from the beach and just a few pleasant blocks from town, and this house has such a pleasant, functional layout. I appreciate having access to a washer and dryer, when staying with my entire family for 1-2 weeks. I love the new furniture (the new couch) and I think the hot tub is new? I also appreciate the beach chairs and toys kept available. We’ll be back again! Thank you for such a wonderful place to stay.

This home needs some updating but is clean and decorated nicely has everything you need. Instructions are a bit tricky for the televisions. It is a great location to beach and shops. The backyard outdoor patio is spacious. Hot tub and fire pit were a plus.

Fabulous La Jolla Rental
You really can't beat this location. It's directly across from on of the best beaches in San Diego. The house is bright and clean, and has nice outdoor space as well. The guest bed is quite creaky, but otherwise this was a great house.

Great Location, Cute House with Wonderful Outdoor Space
Overall this property served us exceptionally well. The location was absolutely perfect. Restaurants, market, and beach are all very walkable distances. The property has great seating for indoor/outdoor living. Great place for kiddos to be able to enjoy the outdoors without worrying about them getting into the street. The only improvement I would like to see is I found the beds to be exceptionally noisy and a little more dusting would be ideal (there was dust hanging from the central air filter). Definitely easy things to overlook given the great location.

A fabulous location, just steps from the beach. Great view of the ocean from the front porch . A very quick trip to get into the village of La Jolla. Lots of towels and linens. Tankless hot water heater was a plus. Lovely, high-end neighborhood. We loved having a gas fireplace and the washer and dryer were very convenient. The interior is a bit dated, however.

Almost perfect
The property is exactly as pictured. Great view of the beach and steps from the sand. Fantastic backyard with hot tub (safe for the little ones, covered with a ladder) and loads of space and seating, fire pit, and lighting. The downstairs has a living room, dining room, nice kitchen and bedroom (no bathroom). 5 steps to upstairs and master bedroom plus kids bedroom with 2 bunk beds (which weren’t used as the twins slept in pack and play cribs). Lots of towels and a garage and laundry room underneath. Why 4 stars you ask? The grill was gross with grease, meat and cheese, took us an hour to clean it then the grease pan underneath flared up, almost a disaster. Other than that the place and location is excellent and recommended.
