  • Kentucky State University was chartered in May 1886 as the State Normal School for Colored Persons, only the second state-supported institution of higher learning in Kentucky.[1] During the euphoria of Frankfort's 1886 centennial celebration, the city donated $1,500 towards the purchase of land for a new college on a bluff overlooking Frankfort. The new school formally opened on October 11, 1887, with three teachers, 55 students, and John H. Jackson as president.[1] Recitation Hall (now Jackson Hall), the college's first permanent building, was erected in that year. KSU became a land-grant college in 1890, and the departments of home economics, agriculture and mechanics were added to the school's curriculum.[1] The school produced its first graduating class of five students in the spring of that year. A high school was organized in 1893. This expansion continued into the 20th century in both name and program. In 1902, the name was changed to Kentucky Normal and Industrial Institute for Colored Persons. The name was changed again in 1926 to Kentucky State Industrial College for Colored Persons.

The bedspread was dusted with debris, hairs ect. The staff was polite. The tv internet went out our 1st morning there, i reported it but it was never fixed. There was trash ( used q-tip) beside the inn table.

The Delegate is a unique travel experience. I would look at it a a crossover from an Airbnb and a hotel. Far more personal than a hotel, but more relational than an Airbnb. It brings together the best of both. Having fine dining on the premises was a plus. The bar staff was the best. Clean and easy to get around.

The staff were very welcoming at all times and where at the ready when we needed something. It is a unique hotel, but that is what made it fun for us. Only reason I am knocking it down to a 4 is that our heating/cooling system sprang a leak on the last night and was dripping on the floor. Notified staff right away in the AM and they indicated they would be fixing it. It was our departure day so I do not know if that happened.

Such a beautiful building. The room was huge! Very clean and nicely decorated. Plenty of plugs and outlets for an army. The included make up mirror was a nice surprise for the Mrs. Staff was friendly and helpful. Was recommended The Brown Barrel restaurant, a short walk down the street, and it was very good. Parking could be an issue but we got a nice spot on the street outside, otherwise you might have a little walk.

Clean rooms, staff was great, one negative is they need to have at least one vending machine and one Ice machine, on the main floor. Front desk would get you ice, but really this is a Flaw. Other than that, the place is really cool!!!

Very kool .. hotel .. was very impressed with the workmanship on the renovation spared no expense… extremely clean and comfortable I paid $110.00 a night anywhere else this would be a minimum of $350-$500 a night there a great restaurant attached to it next door that you can get to from the hotel … I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone …. I never really wrote reviews but was really impressed by this hotel

Very accomodating and friendly staff. Staff went above and beyond to help me and my wife get settled after a 15 hour drive. We were moving across country and had a lot of stuff to get off the car. Perfect location for exploring The Bourbon Trail. Beautiful building and amazing restaurant on site. Top notch staff that was very knowledgable about the area. They provided some great inside tips for the local distilleries.

Staff onsite was excellent. However, i did call 3 times and no one answered. Parking was horrible. If you have small children or disabilities i wouldn't recommend. Housekeeping was very noisy, both in halls and other rooms. I could hear vacuuming several rooms away. Toilet paper was very thin and scratchy.

My only complaint would be parking! Although it was just down the street there were no signs or dedicated area. The hotel was renovated nicely and smelled good! Will definitely stay again if in Frankfort!
