"I had an absolutely terrible experience at The New Yorker Hotel. After my stay, I was hit with a $500 "smoking fee" despite the fact that I do not smoke and did not smoke in the room. This is a blatant cash grab and a complete lack of integrity on the hotel's part.
When I tried to resolve this on-site, the lack of professionalism was staggering. I requested to speak with a manager and was simply handed a business card. I have reached out multiple times to the contact provided, but they have completely ignored my messages. I also asked for a manual check (instead of automated sensor) to check for smoke and was denied. Attempting to dispute the charge has been a nightmare because of their refusal to communicate.
Warning to future travelers: Stay elsewhere. There are plenty of hotels in New York that won't slap you with fraudulent fees and then hide behind a non-responsive management team. This was a dishonest and stressful experience from start to finish."
