"Did not get off to a great start, but I suppose it turned out ok.
Arrived at the Grand Canyon around mid/late afternoon….hoping to check-in, change and go see the rim for a bit while planning dinner around the sunset at the canyon. Unfortunately, at 4:14….our room(and others) was not ready for check-in. We were told 30-60 min so we waited around the lodge, gift shop & tried again…with no success. They said they’d call us when ready, so we could not check in, unpack, change etc….so we we went straight to the rim for a bit…the the sunset. Finally got a call at about 730 that our room was ready, so we returned
-after dark- checked in, got a late dinner from the on site taverna, and went to find our room in the dark. It’s basically a “dated” -yet mostly clean, ground level motel room.
For $400/night, I was expecting a little more.
A room ready by 3–4:00 would’ve been nice, as timing is everything on a vacation trip….especially when all revolves around sunsets at the canyon.
For our inconvenience, we did get 2 passes to the morning breakfast buffet, but only after insisting, after killing the 1st hour+ wating around. Next trip up there, we’ll seek alternative lodging options."
