Made multiple attempts to contact the host to get check in info the day before and the morning of checking. We were informed by the host, the property was double booked and they had to cancel on us, when we were 3 hours away, after 7 hours on the road. The host was absolutely zero help. He said it was VRBO’s responsibility to make sure the booking was ok. This forced us to decide on whether to cancel the vacation or try to find a place to stay. They refunded or original booking, which took a few days to get back to my account. We had to stay in a hotel for one night in a town that was two hours away from the original destination, then luckily we were able to find a house that was a 10-15 minute drive away from the beach. We had to completely change our plans, because the original booking was a 1 minute walk to a free beach. The new place required us to drive quite a ways to access a free beach or pay for a 25 pass to the national park, to keep from driving a long way. Thankfully we were able to find a place, because it was Memorial Day weekend. We were told we would be reimbursed for the hotel stay and the last minute house rental, because of VRBO and the host completely dropping the ball on this and really inconveniencing us on our vacation. I’ve sent in all of the info that was requested for the reimbursement, so we shall see. I really hope they make it right!!!
