"The overall experience was good. The staff were very nice and willing to help. The hotel is very French which we liked but the carpet in our bedroom was very stiff hessian and therefore uncomfortable on bear feet The staircases 2 were very steep, very narrow and winding in my view not suitable for anyone with any kind of mobility issues. Breakfast was continental no meat or cheese but more than adequate. There is no restaurant facilities at the hotel however only a 5 minute walk is an IBIS...

"We had a wonderful week. Maria and her husband are fantastic hosts. Throughout the week they checked everything was alright and asked if we needed anything. The breakfasts that Maria delivered every day were fabulous, plentiful and freshly prepared. We had freshly prepared tarts, fruit, homemade jams etc. The house is perfect for two, set in beautiful gardens, with the use of a small swimming pool.We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if we visited the same area in the future. "If you love hotels with history, this is the place for you. Once a monastery, then a prison, and now the resting place of Richard the Lionheart, staying here feels like being immersed in centuries of French history. The setting within the former Fontevraud Abbey is truly unique and gives the hotel an atmosphere that is difficult to find elsewhere. Just outside the hotel grounds is the picturesque village of Fontevraud-l'Abbaye, with restaurants, bars and a traditional boulangerie. One of my favourite memories was heading out for my early morning runs before the day had begun and smelling fresh bread and pastries coming from the boulangerie. It was one of those simple, wonderfully French moments that really added to the experience. The hotel also makes a great base for exploring the Loire Valley, with its châteaux, vineyards and beautiful countryside all within easy reach. After a day of exploring, returning to the peaceful surroundings of the abbey was a real pleasure. For a special occasion, I’d definitely recommend treating yourself to dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. It was the perfect way to round off our stay and made the whole experience even more memorable. Overall, this is much more than simply a place to stay. The combination of history, character, location and atmosphere makes Fontevraud L’Ermitage a genuinely memorable hotel experience."

"We were only here 2 nights and visiting Iwith friends a town away. So did not have time to sample the restaurant or pool which b7oth looked great. But our room was lovely, well equipped and comfortable, the views out across the grounds were a treat. Would happily stay here again"

"The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was just a short drive to Chatellerault. Difficult to access. Apparently the reception does not open till 5 on a Friday. We understood it opened at 12 every day. Also when we removed the plug to let out a basin of water it flowed all over the floor underneath the basin. There was no air conditioning so it was very hot."
