This peaceful retreat offers a true break from the stress of everyday life — the perfect place to reconnect with family, friends, or someone special. Although privately situated, the cabin is only a short drive from local attractions, dining & outdoor activities whenever you’re ready to explore.
OUTDOOR LIVING Soak in the hot tub while overlooking the mountains, river & valley below. Fire up the barbecue grill & enjoy relaxed outdoor dining on the open deck as fresh mountain air surrounds you. Watch the sunset paint the sky while you share a meal with unforgettable views.
COZY COMFORT INDOORS Step inside to a warm, soothing space designed for rest & relaxation. Comfortable furnishings, modern appliances & thoughtful touches create a true home-away-from-home experience. Enjoy quiet evenings with board games, books, or jigsaw puzzles — perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking to unplug & unwind.
LINENS & TOWELS Guests are asked to bring their own sheets & towels, which most guests are happy to do. However, if you prefer to travel lighter, we’re happy to provide fresh linens & towels for a small additional fee. Just let us know in advance & we’ll gladly have everything prepared for your arrival.
ACCESS Mountain Moonshine is located on a mountain & accessed by a gravel road. While the road is well-traveled & maintained, it is steeper & different from typical flat, urban roads. AWD or 4WD is strongly recommended, especially during periods of heavy rain, snow, or ice. Vehicles with higher clearance perform best. That said, many guests have successfully reached the cabin in standard sedans by maintaining steady speed - turning off traction control can help in some vehicles as well. If you're not familiar with mountain roads, there is no need for concern — just take your time & drive carefully. The journey up is part of the experience & the panoramic mountain views from the cabin make it truly worthwhile!
BOOKING MINIMUM • A 3-night minimum stay is required during holidays & peak dates. There is a 2-night minimum for all other dates. • Ask about our Midweek Special (Sunday–Thursday) for $975

I’d give them 4.5 stars out of 5 but I rounded up. Everything was great overall! Just be mindful of a few things: you have to pay for linens which ran us about 20 per bed. We didn’t catch it initially on the description of the property. The power did go out (no inclement weather) but it was back on in a couple hours and the host was very responsive when it came to this. If you’re thinking about door dashing, we did it once and had plenty of options. The WiFi was solid for streaming on the Roku, but it’s not ideal otherwise. It was laggy just to scroll instagram and it was faster when we used our mobile data. The hot tub was great but know that the view shown on the listing is being blocked now by some vegetation and small trees growing. All in all, a great quiet getaway!
We decided to stay up here to enjoy a couple friends birthdays, and it was the perfect stay. Great location with plenty of things to do a short drive away. Would stay here again!
Myself and a few friends stayed here in late April. The views from the cabin are as good or better than many on the Appalachian Trail or other nearby trails and parks, and the cabin itself was well appointed. The hosts were great and very prompt with communication. The road and driveway to access the property are gravel and somewhat steep, but I didn't feel like we needed high clearance or 4 wheel drive at any point (in good weather). I would definitely stay here again.
This was our 2nd stay at this amazing cabin! Everything was perfect! Especially the spectacular views from the cabin & deck, the pool & hot tub, the cleanliness of the cabin & thoughtfulness of the owner
What a wonderful place to be! My family enjoyed every minute as the view, pool, hot tub, beautiful sunrises and sunsets would be hard to beat anywhere else. We will definitely be back!
This wonderful home has everything you need to cozy up for some time in the mountains. Well organized and nicely stocked kitchen, comfy beds, close to great hiking. We loved it!
We had a wonderful and relaxing time staying at the Moonshine Mountain Cabin. The view is even more spectacular than the pictures show and the cabin was very clean, well stocked, and comfortable. The pool and hot tub were a great bonus, too. Definitely take the AWD/4WD recommendation seriously, though, the mountain roads are bumpy.
If you want somewhere relaxing and private to escape to, this is it! Beautiful views of the mountains, comfortable beds and quick responses from the host. Looking forward to coming back!
The house was perfect with beautiful views and allowed for a relaxing weekend. We got a lot of use out of the hot tub and want to take a summer trip to utilize the pool. I Definitely recommend staying here for a relaxing trip with amazing views.
My wife and I stayed her for an Oct Fall weekend and it was absolutely amazing. We were having a delayed celebration of our anniversary and just wanted a quiet stay, secluded, with an amazing view to enjoy the Fall colors - - and this place delivered to the fullest. Communication with the host was excellent, check-in was easy, and the cabin is very nice. You'll never leave the porch. 100% recommend and we will definitely be back.
What a beautiful home with great amenities. Gorgeous views everywhere. I would agree with the owner that a 4 wheel or all wheel drive is necessary to get to the house. The only bad part was that my stay was way too short. 😊
Although the listing recommends 4WD, that, to me, should be featured more prominently. The view from the home is spectacular, but guests should be acutely aware that the price is a rugged, steep drive. The home is nice and roomy; the exterior could use a little boost. Overall it was a lovely getaway.
The pictures and description do not do this place justice. The interior was so much more than we expected. It was comfortable, gorgeous, and just what we needed as a haven. The porch area is where we spent most of our time. The views were magnificent. We sat there and stared at sunrise, sunset, and the stars. I’m fact, we could faintly see the Milky Way. If I have my way, we will be back.

Best part about the cabin was the view!
There were a few minor issues brought to PM attention and resolved. The house was not as clean as I would have hoped for the price point.. The road leading up to and the driveway is no joke! The best part about the cabin was the incredible view, absolutely amazing. Overall, we most likely would not stay again.
We had an awesome time at your cabin! The view was the best we have ever seen. Great for morning coffee! The driveway was a little tough for my front wheel drive car so would recommend you state that AWD or 4WD a necessity. Even though we had no issues, there was not a # to contact the property manager on your information sheet in the cabin. May want to add that. Otherwise, a great time was had by all :)
The cabin & property are amazing! The pictures do not do it justice!
Our favorites are the wide open view of the mountains (great for sunsets & stars), the huge balcony/deck to sit on an enjoy the peacefulness & the view, and of course the pool & hot tub!
The cabin itself is very clean & well-stocked, especially the kitchen! I've never stayed at a cabin that had so many things in the kitchen for us to use! We loved the panini press! The ambience, decorations, furniture, showers are all thoughtful, well taken care of, and make you feel right at home.
I've already booked another week here because of how blown away we were with it all! I didn't want to leave!
Thank you Charles! It means a lot to us that your shared this "little slice of heaven" with us!
Great weekend mountain getaway for our 10th anniversary!
My husband and I stayed the weekend of Oct 13-16th, 2023 for our anniversary and LOVED IT!! We even liked it better than Gatlinburg, TN! Everything was as described in the listing, especially the great views and spacious, clean cabin! We hope to return with our kids next time possibly in the summer so we can go in the pool. We spent most of our outing's in Rileyville and Luray, which wasn't a far drive at all. It's a nice remote location with no visible neighbors. The drive up to the cabin is no joke! Heed the warnings and bring a 4 wheel drive vehicle! I'm so glad we took our 4x4 mid size truck & not my AWD Chevy Equinox (because I think it would've struggled).. The only few drawbacks are no closets or coat racks downstairs for coats & the jets in the hot tub weren't too strong..
We had an amazing weekend hanging out in the pool and hot tub and grilling with the incredible view always in sight. The house was nice and clean, and fit well for our group.
The bed in the living room was a little funny. Luckily our group was all close and very comfortable with each other, so it wasn’t a big deal. They also provided a little privacy screen to put up which was great (a second one would have been good though).
I was a little nervous about the driveway based on other reviews and I stand by their reviews. The driveway is no joke, very steep, but the road leading up to the driveway was also a bit rough. My Subaru Impreza did well, but going slow to avoid pot holes was necessary to not bottom out on the road leading up to the driveway. The view at the top was worth it though!
Over all it was an incredible place and I would go back!
We stayed at this beautiful mountain cabin to celebrate our daughter’s birthday, and it was a perfect family getaway. The views overlooking the Shenandoah were absolutely stunning, especially in the mornings and evenings, and made the trip feel truly special. The cabin itself was clean, comfortable, and well set up for a relaxing stay. The hot tub was a huge highlight and the perfect way to unwind while taking in the scenery. The atmosphere felt peaceful, private, and very family-friendly.Everything about this stay made it easy to relax and enjoy time together. We’d happily recommend this cabin and would love to return in the future!
We had an amazing stay at this beautiful cabin in Rileyville! The location was absolutely perfect—quiet, peaceful, and close to everything we wanted to do. The cabin itself was spotless, cozy, and well stocked with everything we needed. The hot tub was the highlight—perfect after a day of exploring, and it made our evenings so relaxing. We couldn’t have asked for a better getaway spot and will definitely be coming back!
