"Prior to booking I checked several review forums which all suggested a mixed reception of the hotel and staff. Regrettably I didn’t experience service which was upstanding to the hotel 5star status. My room wasn’t particularly clean. Evidence of dust and marks in places. Some of the fixtures and fittings were tired looking and not up to spec. Our hotel room was designed for a family space however upon arrival we found the sofa bed badly rust damaged on the inside and in no state for personal use. This issue took several days to be resolved. We were eventually moved to another room after getting in contact with the services manager. The staff are mostly friendly with the odd few showing great enthusiasm and professionalism. (Entertainment team are great) soecial mention to Cyril, Hot wings and Thunder. I get a strong sense the staff are underpaid and underwhelmed due to this situation. The hotel staff are quite reliant upon a tip for extra service culture which is a shame as I believe your service should merit if you receive a tip not just as standard practice. Overall review is underwhelming for a 5 star hotel."

"I enjoyed my experience, but this is not my favorite resort in terms of luxury (I’ve been to better). They can do a better job at maintaining the property. My room was clean but the hallways were not greatly kept. There was trash in some of the stairwells. I was disgusted when I went into the buffet restaurant on the family side and saw a soiled sanitary napkin on the floor of the restroom. I know this is not the property’s fault and is the action of a vacationer, but it was still gross to experience."

"Miss Laura was excellent in her correspondence- After booking, I was informed immediately with a detailed email with all of the important information I needed to know about Polkerris and our stay. My partner and I are of Jamaican parentage and it really felt like we had returned home. The room was excellent with a beautiful sea view. The AC cut through the humidity like a knife through butter. Breakfast was so good. Miss Elaine (Laura’s mom) I clearly had to adopt. The choices for the food she prepared were really nice. She even made modifications and responded to requests! We will definitely be back."

"The owner was great! She and her daughter was very hospitable, anything needed or if I had any questions you answered with no problem at anytime. Only stayed for the one night, however if I ever needed a place to stay, I would gladly go back."

"Considering the property faced very bad hurricane damage only 10 months ago, it is in remarkable shape, almost so that you would not even know it had been damaged. The room was very clean, nice but interesting decor, and a nice shower in a roomy bathroom. Funky vibe about the property. Breakfast was excellent (the only meal I ate there unfortunately). Staff were friendly, and talkative when involved in conversation. I've wanted to stay there a long time and I wasn't disappointed with anything during my stay."

"Stayed for 4 weeks. Right next door to Jake’s and Jack Sprat. This is a smaller hotel and it was very quiet. For most part it’s like no one else was there, so my daughter and I got the place to ourselves. I liked the quiet and tranquility. My daughter wanted the opposite, so we made friends with the locals and my daughter played with there kids. The kids had a lot of fun in the pool, at the beach and exploring locally. We were also able to get our hair braided by off duty employee at a great price. Lots of food choices (pricey but good). I will definitely be returning."
