Great location, beautiful apartment, but host communication needs improvement
This was the setting for a graduation celebration trip for my two adult sons and I. The physical space was perfect for us. It's in a beautiful, classic Old San Juan 5-flat. The balcony view- especially around sunset with a cold beer or an espresso- is lovely. The location is perfect for taking in the nightlife- with several bars and after-hours places within a 5 minute walk. Unlike many rentals in Old San Juan, there is AC- little wall-mounted ductless units in the bedrooms and living room. It's an old building and it has some quirks. It's a fourth floor walk-up and some may struggle with the stairs. The bathroom has some quirks too- the shower nob kept falling off and you have to run the hot water in the sink to get hot water in the shower. They had these little ants in the front room too. All in all though, nothing all that out of line for a value-priced rental in a classic building in the Caribbean.Communication was a challenge though and led to some surprises at checkout. The checkout instructions were pretty sparse. But the host/management seemed to expect a lot more clean-up than the usual big-picture stuff. They also expected us to pull the trash but did not communicate this. And- with no dumpster, chute, outside cans- it was not obvious where the trash would go. I was hit with an extra 120 charge. This situation could have been better managed with better communication. I would suggest the usual binder with the check-out procedures, emergency contacts, etc.
