  • Set in the picturesque landscape of a UNESCO World Heritage site, a restored farmhouse of golden local stone has generous spaces reflecting the wide Val d'Orcia valley just outside its doors. This makes it the ideal location for relaxed family reunions or a holiday retreat for friends happy to eschew snarled traffic in favour of uncluttered hillsides and willing to leave full agendas behind. Once owned by a shepherd who produced fabulous Pecorino cheese here, today it has been transformed into a spacious and elegant family holiday home. There are spaces for family fun, with a table tennis table and fabulous pool, as well as understated interior design elegance for relaxing. The living room even features an original vinyl record deck, with an eclectic collection of records - some of our return guests even bring their own!

Beautiful house, note quite ready.

Our stay was enjoyable but there were a number of issues one wouldn’t expect at a property of this nature. In time, this will be a perfect holiday rental but it’s just not ready.There are failing and insecure external doors, cracked windows, some windows unable to be opened due to handles falling off, the coffee machine was faulty, the pool was unusable on a few days due to the level of dirt and we had an entire day without running water. The location is fantastic and the views couldn’t be improved. The house manager is very attentive and did what she could in a difficult situation. .

A stunning location if you love the countryside

This is a beautiful house in a stunning location. We were met by the lovely Paula and her husband in Sarteano and they showed us to the property and were very helpful. This is a really great place for a family holiday with plenty of space to relax. Great pool with views you will not tire of seeing, of Tuscan scenery and the Val D'Orcia. Good sized bedrooms, and smart ensuite bathrooms. Kitchen is well equipped, and really the house could not be better. The house has new owners and is currently a mix of styles and taste, old and new, though apparently the new owners are doing more work on it over the winter - we would happily go back (with a stronger car!) And therein lies the only small problem. Its advertised as a 2km track in but in reality you are 6km of non metalled road whichever direction you go as there are 4km sections of dirt road to Sarteano and all other directions when you reach the end of the 2km rougher track. The weather has not been kind to the track especially the 2km to the house and the new owners will need to invest in this (they have their own Defender 110 permanently at the property, which says it all !!)

Warm and friendly house in a spectacular location

Those willing to navigate a couple of kilometres on a rocky rural track will be amply rewarded when they get to Casa del Pastore, a well-equipped but relaxed house with absolutely stunning views of Mt Amiata and the Val d'Orcia. They'll get a warm and friendly welcome from Mike and Baal who look after the house, and can enjoy a stay at the heart of one of the most beautiful and remote regions of southern Tuscany in complete comfort. The house is well looked-after, with a great pool, decent satellite broadband and loads of space - and a view that catches your breath every time you step out the door. It's a beautiful place.

Stunning property!

The main feature of this holiday home is its infinity pool with that glorious view. The house has been beautifully renovated and has everything you need. Our boys appreciated the table football! Mike and Baal were charming, friendly and helpful. Their wine store was a welcome addition too. A robust hire car is necessary for the long dirt track.
