Loved the stunning location on a very quiet beach (it is quite isolated though). Facilities were great- pilates, yoga, spa, pool. Staff were so friendly. I stayed a week and felt very safe and comfortable. Only 4 stars because I think it was quite expensive for 3 star accomodation plus activities and food on top. The food wasn't great but luckily there are really good restaurants nearby. I was expecting more of a relaxing retreat atmosphere but there were a lot of young children screaming and teenagers from the surf camp.

I had a first floor room which is semi open and well equiped with mosquito nets, fan etc. to keep bugs away in this open setup. Enjoyed being so close to nature, waking up to birdsongs. The ground floor rooms are closed if you dont like thr thought of an open room. Accomodation is on the beach and stretches approx 1.2km and I enjoyed sunrise (over sea) and sunset walks. Swimming pool is great for laps. The spa treatments and therapists were devine, reformer pilates are offered at extra cost with studio half glassed with lovely view of beach and gardens. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Loved my stay, would highly recommend if wanting a place to relax and recharge, with friendly & helpful staff:)

Wi-fi funkar jättedåligt. Mat och dryck är medioker och dyr. Ca 70 rum men endast 17 solsängar vid stranden (inte på stranden dock, där finns inga). Frukosten var sådär, bra om man vill ha ris och curry, enda stället i landet antagligen som tar betalt för juice till frukost, kaffe, te och vatten ingår.

Hotel superbe sur la plage !

Nous avons passez 6 jours dans cette hotel pour finir notre séjour. Nous avions réservé une chambre devant la piscine, mais celle qu'on nous à proposé était à l'extrémité au bord de la route. Il a été très difficile de changer de chambre, mais après de longues discussions, nous avons pu avoir une autre chambre. Celle -ci n'était plus devant la piscine mais dans le jardin et en haut. Nous avons passé 4 jours dans cette chambre et avons dû changer à nouveau pour deux nuits dans une chambre en bas. J'avoue que je n'ai pas bien compris l'organisation de cet hotel... Attention toutes les chambres sont en "open space", il n'est donc pas toujours facile de se reposer, car beaucoup de famille viennent séjourner avec des enfants en bas âges.

Talalla Retreat is marketed as a serene oceanfront wellness escape. Unfortunately, my experience did not align with that image. I prepaid for a Sea View Category Room. Upon arrival, I was shown to a room in a separate “new” building far from the sea, facing jungle greenery with a shared balcony. It did not reflect what most guests would reasonably expect from a sea view booking. When I raised this immediately, I was told there were no alternatives available. The options were to accept the room, move after two days to a non-AC open-air room, or cancel with a 20% late cancellation fee. After lengthy discussions, I chose not to stay. The main payment was refunded, but the cancellation fee was retained. The overall atmosphere felt commercial rather than retreat-like. Meals were buffet-only and did not appear particularly appetising. Some areas lacked the level of cleanliness and maintenance one would expect from a wellness-focused property. Staff were polite but inflexible, and the resolution process felt policy-driven rather than guest-centred. If you are attending a structured retreat and prioritise location over accommodation standards, it may suit you. However, if booking independently based on the marketing imagery, clarify the exact room location and view in advance. The natural setting is beautiful — the operational experience needs refinement.

Expedia-Zimmerbeschreibung völlig falsch

Wir buchten ein "Bungalow" für 2 Nächte und mussten leider feststellen, dass die Expedia Zimmer Beschreibung überhaupt nicht stimmt. Im Hotel wies man uns ab und meinte dass sei Expedias Schuld und wir hätten sowieso Glück gehabt ein Zimmer mit eigenem Bad zu bekommen, da wir eines mit Gemeinschaftsbad gebucht hätten (davon stand nichts in der Beschreibung). Vergleich Beschreibung und Wirklichkeit: - „Patio mit Blick auf den Garten“ -> Zimmer hatte ein Fenster kein Patio - „Separate Sitzecke“ -> nicht vorhanden - „Safe und Schreibtisch“ -> nicht vorhanden - „Bungalow“ -> das Zimmer befand sich in einem Haus, der Begriff Bungalow ist irreführend Unser Zimmer war sehr eng, außer dem Bett und einem Schrank hätte da nichts mehr rein gepasst. Es gab eine undichte Zwischentür zum Nachbarzimmer so dass man alles hören konnte. Die Surfboard Miete soll 30$/Tag kosten, teurer als in Hawaii (20$) und deutlich teurer als im Rest Sri Lankas (ca.800-1000LKR). Das Hotel hat auch noch schönere Zimmer und ist vor allem für Leute geeignet die das Rundum-Sorglos Paket wollen.

Nichts für Jedermann

Wir haben in dem Hotel 3 Übernachtungen gehabt und uns leider gar nicht wohlgefühlt. Der Strand, das Meer und die Anlage an sich sind ganz schön, aber alles andere hat uns gar nicht gefallen. Das Personal grüßt nicht und wirkt eher desinteressiert. Wir hatten in unserem Zimmer eine riesige Ameisenstrasse, was ja passieren kann, aber nach 2 mal Nachfragen ob sich jemand darum kümmern kann war immernoch nichts passiert. Erst beim dritten Mal , als ich gefragt hab, ob wir selber ein Spray bekommen können, kam jemand mit uns mit und hat die Ameisen beseitigt. Das offene Raumkonzept der Zimmer ist sicher auch nichts für jedermann. Man ist zwar sehr mit der Natur verbunden , dadurch war es aber Nachts so laut, dass wir nicht schlafen konnten ( durch Grillen , Frösche , bellende Hunde ..). In einer Nacht hatte es sich ein Wachmann wohl vor unseren Bungalow gemütlich gemacht der Husten oder ähnliches hatte. Für die Verhältnisse in Sri Lanka und auch im Vergleich zu anderen Hotels fanden wir das hier Preis-Leistung nicht stimmt. Das Mittag und Abendessen in Buffet Form ist relativ teuer. Hier hat uns auch sehr geärgert, dass ständig Sachen auf unserer Rechnung auftauchten, wie eine Flasche Wasser , ein Bier, oder komplett lunch , welches wir gar nicht konsumiert hatten. Auf unsere Anmerkung würde es zwar korrigiert, aber ohne jegliche Entschuldigung. Man hatte ein bisschen dass Gefühl , das passiert absichtlich..insgesamt keine Wohlfühlatmosphäre:(

这个地方真的太漂亮了，到处都可以见到松鼠，早上还有猴子在树上和地上走，傍晚的时候可以看到成群的巨型蝙蝠，晚上还会有很多的萤火虫，非常的安静，很适合度假养生，美中不足的是房间没有电视也没有WIFE，基本上住客们晚上9点多就睡觉，早上5点起来去练瑜珈

I left my heart in Talalla Retreat. Incredible staff who were so welcoming and hard working, the Retreat itself is stunning. I had an upstairs bedroom so was able to fully enjoy the surroundings. The food was incredible. I felt super safe. I didn’t want to leave. A must visit - and please do as the Sri Lankan people need visitors right now.

Nice property, simple rooms.

Overall a very nice property with a great location and a relaxed feel. Good and varied food. However, room standards even for the most expensive villas are extremely simple and has seen its best days regarding maintenance. In sum it seems a bit overpriced. The open air floors are very special and are not for every one's taste and comfort. Activities like surfing is extremely overpriced compared to what you pay elsewhere in the area. A specific negative to our stay: Just outside our bedroom window, for large portions of the day, the cleaners seem to locate their cleaning central for the sea view villas, "hanging out", storing cleaning appliances, gathering dirty towels and empty bottles and glasses etc on the ground. Visually not a nice sight and definitely compromising our privacy.

Peaceful and beautiful grounds

We loved the grounds of talalla retreat - absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The breakfast was fantastic and the spa facilities good, although a little on the pricey side. I was initially a little disappointed with the room itself as it was a little basic, but actually grew to like its simplistic style and open-air bathroom

Lovely stay!

Beautiful property-great massages and service. Talalla is a nice lovely clean long beach to stroll down. Stayed in an oceanfront bungalow which was fabulous but the mosquitos are NO JOKE so make sure to tuck your net in tight use repellent and light the coil! My only complaint was my fan like barely worked so was super hot at night as the wind died down but asked the staff for an extra floor fan which they happily provided. Food and drinks were excellent as well. Would highly recommend!

Talalla Retreat

Beautiful, serene location to relax, swim and practice yoga in a secluded retreat environment. The buffet breakfast offers fresh fruits and Sri Lankan options. We did not eat any other meal in the restaurant as it was fairly Westernized, however if you need a change up from curries etc, I'm sure this food would be fantastic. Expect to pay about $10 for drinks and $5 for coffee. Overall, a comfortable stay with the beach right on the back doorstep.

Special place.

Wonderful relaxing beautiful retreat feeling. The grounds and pool are magnificent. Our room was up near the trees so no breeze and had to close shutters in case of monkeys...made for a very warm night. Also one of the shared bathrooms needed attention. Food and staff excellent. Beach is exquisite with local fishermen offering boat rides for $25 US....well worth. Would recommend but try for room near beach for breeze.

Sehr schöne Anlage aber zuviel Fokus aus Yoga

Das Retreat an sich ist super. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Bungalows sind schlicht eingericht. Hier fehlt etwas der Charme. Die offene Bauweise lädt besonders im Sanitärbereich Mücken ein. Was nervt waren drei teilweise große Surf und/ oder Yogareisegruppen. Teilweise gab es Streit zwischen den Yogaklassen wegen den Locations. Doppelt oder Falschbelegung. Weiterhin sind solche Gruppen meist eine geschlossene Einheit. Als Individualreisender kommt sich da mitunter verloren vor, weil man kaum Gelegenheit hat, andere Menschen kennenzulernen. Die Yogazeiten der Privatklassen sollten eingeschränkt werden. Man muss nicht unbedingt halb sechs mit Yoga starten und andere Gäste durch Weckerklingeln oder das Singen von Liedern mit aus dem Schlaf reißen.

Shared bathroom with bungalows . Rooms better but mosi nets were essential . Great massage at the spa. Buffet not so good.

Overpriced & extreamly pretentious

Relaxing atmosphere and the staff were excellent, as is standard for the whole of Sri Lanka. However the rooms are so open to the elements that we had multiple lizards crawling along the bed frame and woke up to people peering in at us from their balcony. Along with this the food and related activities are rediculously overpriced for what they are.
