English basement in a historic 110-year-old classic DC row home! Famous for their history, DC row homes are a hot commodity. This freshly renovated gem is in the heart of the bustling Columbia Heights neighborhood just steps from some of the best food, shopping, and bars in the country! Here for DC's famed monuments, memorials, and museums? Not a problem - you'll have the fastest access to them all from the Columbia Heights Metro Station. We can't wait to show you why we call DC home!

While the entire row home has been freshly renovated the English Basement received special attention to provide you with modern amenities, ample space, and plenty of light to make your stay as comfortable as possible!

You may see us occasionally so feel free to say hi! Otherwise we’re available via the Airbnb app.

Columbia Heights is a neighborhood well-known for its diverse multicultural community and strong neighborhood pride. Located in the Northwest Quadrant, Columbia Heights sits right in the middle of some of the city's most active and desirable neighborhoods. This bustling neighborhood is just minutes from some of the best food, shopping, bars, and attractions in the country.

One of the greatest luxuries of DC: GREAT public transportation! The Columbia Heights Metro stop is a short 5 minute walk. There are also plenty scooters, bikes, and Uber/Lyft (they are FAST so make sure to be ready when you order it).
- We love and respect our neighbors and our house - please do the same.
- Please, no excessive noise, parties, events.
- Only guests on the reservation may occupy the house.
- Quiet hours are in place from 10pm to 8am. (As this is a row home neighbors are close by, and the upstairs unit is occupied year-round.)
- No smoking and no pets.
- The DC community cares about recycling and preserving the environment - please separate trash and recycling.
- Please be tidy and clean up as necessary: dishes, trash, etc...

Very fresh remodel. Looks brand new. Very clean. Safe neighborhood. Eight minute safe walk to metro, Target and Best Buy. Decent sized rooms full sized laundry. New appliances and supplies. Smart TV in LR and one BR. 25 minutes to the DC mall. Linens are 8/10. Host communicates immediately.

Super cute basement apartment. Newly renovated in soothing colors. Even though it is in the basement, it has windows and felt airy. We were able to walk to lunch and grocery. Kitchen amenities were good, especially coffee provided. Streets parking was always available. We will stay here again!

The apartment experience was as presented in the pictures. While being in a basement, it did not lack for light.The only fault in the rear bedroom was the lack of an ability to soften the lighting. An option from the in celling lights would have been appreciated. We enjoyed walking in the neighborhood and parking our car was as easy as stated.

Great location for our purpose of visit. Close to the Metro, restaurants and Howard University. Very walkable for all of our needs. Spacious for 5 adults (all family), nice kitchen and bar seating made for a great open space to visit and enjoy a nice meal in. Comfortable beds, tall ceilings for garden apartment, nice closet shelving provided storage.We would stay here again.

The property was very clean and exactly as described. There was a lingering cleaner scent when we first checked in, but it aired out quickly once we opened doors and windows. Austin was great at communicating with me, and very quick to answer questions and provide information on street parking. The location of the apartment was great—lots of activities around Columbia Heights, and close to the metro station.

Great location, great stay

We were very pleased with our stay here. The owners provided a lot of info on the area and recommendations for places to eat. Close to public transportation. I do believe, however, that photos of the property, don’t do it justice. It was roomier than I anticipated, which was much appreciated as we were home-bound a little more than we expected it to be. I’d rent this place again in a heartbeat

Perfect family getaway spot

Came with my partner and her kids and their friends to celebrate a birthday and had a great time. Lovely place which was aesthetically pleasing, clean, and had a great layout. Loved it!

Not good for relaxing

Furniture uncomfortable, pillows not comfortable on beds. Could not get TVs to work at all. No wash cloths available and only one hand towel for 4 people. Couch bed is really uncomfortable for couch and as a bed.

Great for family stay in DC

We loved our stay at this property!! We arrived late at night, but check-in was very easy and we had no problems at all. We loved the location of the apartment - easy walk to the metro, which we used all week to get to the monuments, Nationals Park, and all around town. We didn't spend much time in the apartment during the day, but it was cozy to come home to at night. We even tried a couple of neighborhood restaurants which we loved (recommend Red Rocks Pizza!). We were very comfortable with 2 adults & 2 teenage boys.

Beautiful, Super Clean Space, Great Central NW Location, Awesome Hosts!

A friend and I recently stayed at The Cellar and loved it. Her exact words were, "This is the nicest rental I've ever stayed in". The space is beautifully finished and super clean with everything you need. It's on a quiet, safe residential street in Columbia Heights, a five minute walk to the Metro, and a 20 minute walk to Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, and U Street restaurants. If you enjoy walking a city, The Cellar is a 2 mile walk north to The National Zoo and a 2 mile walk South to the Capital One Center and The Mall. The owners (and their beautiful Great Dane) were so nice and were very responsive. I highly recommend staying at The Cellar!

2 lovely days in CH

We popped up to DC for a heartbreakingly short stay but we absolutely loved it! The kitchen is well stocked with equipment for home meals, and the location is close to the metro station, restaurants and grocery stores! We had no problem navigating to the Smithsonian! Next time I plan a visit to DC I’m definitely going to be checking this VRBO availability first!

Perfect Place to Stay in DC

The English Basement was perfect. It was a short stay for us in DC but the apartment had everything we needed. The check in process was so easy. Communication was excellent. We were excited to find an apartment with two bedrooms. The neighborhood was nice and parking was easy with a free pass for on street parking. It was about a 20 min drive to the National Mall and museums. So glad we chose this apartment!
