"I've stayed at Old Silk Appartments twice so far in apartments 8 and 9. Both I found spotless, white soft towels, comfy beds, tastefully decorated well maintained and adequately appointed. "The room I was given (single occupancy to be fair) was similar to student accommodation. The small bed was pushed up against the wall. The shower was cramped, the shower gel was empty. The carpet had a threadbare patch, the wallpaper was peeling away in a couple of corners and the net curtain on the window wasn't well attached. Oh, and yes, the bathroom had no door, which was an interesting design feature. If you get a room like this, you'd be better off staying at a travel lodge. Also, we were asked to leave the car-park earlier than intended as they had a large function on. Despite all of the above negativity, I would like to say that all the staff around the hotel were great - friendly, polite and helpful."

"Very nice hotel, very clean , very nice bedroom & en/suite. Had a meal in the restaurant but sadly had to send my steak back as it was very tough, they asked me to order something else which I selected the pasta with salmon in it with an amazing sauce which I throughly enjoyed it washed down with a very nice Argentine Malbec & selection of sorbets for my dessert. GREAT MEAL LOVELY STAFF"

"The Ibis budget was relatively cheap. There was no coffee/tea making equipment in the room. Instead there were coffee/tea facilities hidden away on the first floor. The room key stops working if you put it near your phone. You need to use your key to make the lift work, but then again the lift does not always work, even with the key. If you want decent facilities at the airport you will need to spend more. If you want a bed for a few hours and don’t expect much, then you will be happy."

"The kitchen staff were amazing (big shout out to Tracey and Yasmin, who brightened my morning every day). The hotel was undergoing a refurbishment so the restaurant area was not great, although I can see that the refurb team have done their best to prevent any impact on hotel guests. My room was on the top floor, so was quite removed from the noise. It is the staff who make this hotel, everyone was so friendly and kind. The food was ok, the 24hr menu is quite poor (only a few dishes available) but I assume this is a logistics issue. Small issues that could be better - the family room I was allocated was nothing like the photos. It was quite poor, considering the cost per night (and I had paid for a family room to get specific amenities). There was no full length mirror (just a waist high one in the bathroom), there was no desk or chair to work at (just a rickety small round table, barely big enough for a plate) and the door stop on the floor had been damaged / removed at some point, leaving a 2-inch tall thin cylinder sticking out the floor. As my suitcase was in that location behind the door, I didn't realise this until I stood on it with bare feet, on the morning I was due to leave! Overall, this hotel is superbly convenient for the train station, for the NEC, for the airport and local access roads. I would definitely stay here again, although I would not pay so much for a superior room next time, given that it was basically the same as a standard room."
