  • This charming cottage sits in the northern area of the Lake District just behind the Skiddaw range, offering a homely base for families and couples planning days of outdoor adventure together. With walks in the Lake District National Park from your doorstep, outdoor enthusiasts are spoiled with scenic walking and cycling trails in every direction. The market town of Keswick (10 miles) is one of the Lake District’s most popular destinations, providing the perfect base for adventures with its many outdoor equipment shops, supermarkets, transport links and places to eat and drink. The village of Bassenthwaite (2.5 miles) and its dramatic lake provide exciting water sports opportunities, while the Georgian town of Cockermouth (10 miles) reveals the region’s history with attractions including the National Trust’s Wordsworth House and Garden, the ruins of Cockermouth Castle, and ancient Insel Hall.

    A half-mile lane leads to this attractive rural property, setting the scene for a truly off-the-beaten-track getaway. Before stepping inside, take a moment to appreciate the far-reaching countryside views that surrounds you – including the Dash Waterfall at the head of the valley. Head indoors, kick off muddy walking boots in the entrance lobby, and find that the rural charm continues in the form of original cottage features that blend with modern comforts. Be greeted by the property’s social heart, a cosy lounge with exposed wooden beams set above comfortable furniture, a Smart TV and roaring wood burner. When stomachs rumble, find that the galley-style kitchen boasts everything needed for cooking hearty suppers, which can be savoured at the dining table indoors or alfresco-style out in the garden. At the end of each busy day away, two welcoming double bedrooms offer peaceful slumbers, both served by a family shower room and separate WC.

    Outside, the enclosed garden is perfect for relaxing under the sun and soaking up the impressive Cumbrian views. Let little ones play on the lawn while the adults enjoy evening tipples on the patio, which is furnished for memorable al fresco meals together. Guests will also benefit from parking for two cars on a driveway shared with the neighbouring holiday cottage.
