The hotel smells bad so the staff constantly sprays this air freshener around that smells like bug spray..the towels r frayed and have holes in them..my single room was very small and so was the shower..there is a big hole by the front steps that is dangerous..8 steps to get into the hotel..the breakfast was OK.

Just be aware that if you have a downstairs unit, there is no lift. Well, there is a lift, but it doesn't work, and nobody will help you with the bags. My wife was on her own with three kids and three big bags, and nobody would help her go up these super narrow and super steep stairs. We even asked the cleaning people about the lift, and they just said it should work with a code. It didn't. We asked them for help, and they didn't want to help. Just make sure you don't get a lower unit if you have bags.

The hotel was in a fairly central location, although it was a bit of a walk to most of the main attractions. The upside was that it was in a quieter area, making it a peaceful place to stay away from the crowds. The room was spacious by Amsterdam standards and had a modern, well-designed interior. Overall, it was comfortable and offered good value if you don’t mind walking a little to explore the city.

Overall the hotel was just okay. I don’t think this is really a 4-star boutique hotel - it was just average. But for the price, it’s not bad

The hotel is a jaw dropping early twentieth century architectural marvel. Walking up the stairs and seeing the stained glass ceiling at the top felt like living history. Not only that, but the staff was personable and very helpful and attentive, the room was clean, airy, quiet, and comfortable, and the breakfast each morning was fantastic. If I could give extra stars I would.

Wonderful hotel and staff! We had a flight delay and they made sure to hold our room until we got there. Great location and the resident cat is adorable.

The best part of this hotel is the staff – every person at the front desk was very kind and friendly, and greeted us with a smile. Thank you so much, as this is worth a lot for a foreign traveler!! The lobby area is decent. But the hotel room itself was just OK. The carpet through the hallways of the hotel, as well as in our room, were dingy and stained. And the room itself was not all that well maintained with large chips in the wall, chipped furniture, etc. And the area in the lobby with free coffee and candy, always had flies. Our room was otherwise clean with comfortable beds. Positives are that the hotel is a short 5 min walk from the central train station and the main tourist road. The hotel is also located in the red light district, which is dingier and dirtier than other parts of the city; but at least it’s at the edge of the red light direct, so within one block you can escape to a more attractive area. So for the €400/night after all the taxes and fees, I had hoped the hotel would be nicer. But overall, it was fine. Truly, the staff made up for a lot.

Two of our rooms with the slanted skylight were very small. The curtains were very dated and the carpet had quite a few stains. The overall experience for price and definitely the location was very good. The staff was excellent.
