Rio Del Mar stay

My recent stay at this vacation rental presented a mixed bag of experiences that ranged from the excellent to the disappointing. On the positive side, the location of the rental couldn’t be more ideal. It offered convenient parking options, which is a significant plus for travelers coming by car. Moreover, its proximity to the beach was simply superb, allowing for easy access to seaside activities and the soothing sound of waves at night.However, the experience began to falter when it came to basic amenities and the overall state of the rental. We were provided with a mere three rolls of toilet paper for a week's stay, which was insufficient for our needs. Additionally, the kitchen was equipped with only two hand towels for the entire week, which felt inadequate for daily kitchen activities. The rental was dotted with no-smoking signs, which, while understandable, contributed to a less welcoming atmosphere.A significant letdown was the state of the furnishings, which appeared to have not been updated in around 40 years. This gave the interior an outdated feel that detracted from the overall comfort and aesthetic appeal of the place.While the location and certain conveniences were highlights of our stay, the lack of basic amenities and the dated furnishings were disappointing. It's clear that the rental could benefit greatly from some updates and improvements. As it stands, I find it difficult to recommend this property. Wonderful stay in Rio del Mar

Nice location, place has pros and cons

I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall, looks as shown in the pictures. Nice layout, cute decor. We and a number of others guests really would have liked a king size bed, as well as a nice comforter (we got very cold first night, couldn't find any blankets: later learned they were in a wicker chest we thought was just a luggage rack.) A solid towel rack in the bathroom would help a lot. Kitchen wares were fine, decor is attractive though brown chair is getting worn. A pretty steep walk down to the beach but a very nice beach. We'd planned to use this more as a place to sleep while doing longer day tours. But Traffic getting bad in this area, have to avoid driving south to here on Hwy 1 between 3-6. All in all, we probably won't come back, but it's due as much to the crowding of the Santa Cruz area as anything else. We lived here in the 70s and it's hard not to compare. I can see why, however. It remains one of the nicest climates with the best beaches and redwoods anywhere.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This condo was a great base for our trip to California. The view was spectacular! The condo was clean and comfortable., as well as quiet. Loved to be able to hear the ocean from inside. The owners even provided ice packs and a styrofoam cooler. That was a great surprise for us as we came from Ohio so couldn’t bring a cooler. This condo was a great location for visiting other places nearby. We will definitely stay here again!

This property is located in a great area. We were able to hear the ocean throughout the home. Their cleaning crew needs to be more thorough as many areas needed cleaning. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable.

Amazing location and good base for exploring the area

The apartment was an ideal base for exploring the coast. We had a car so it is located to promptly get on the 1 or reach local shops and restaurants etc. Space wise it was plentiful for a weeks stay, and we loved watching the sunrise and sunset from the balcony. It truly is the highlight of the property. We appreciated the decor may not be to our style and the property to be dated as per previous reviews, but that this was reflected in the price point. However there are a few small things which would not be much investment which would make the apartment even better; - Pillows - there were 2 thin lumpy pillows for 2 people. I found similar pillows in the wardrobe but no pillow cases so they could not be used. I don't think it would be much to buy 4 decent pillows for the double bed. - There was a random assortment of beach items in the living room cupboard as if left by previous guests. Only 1 lightweight beach chair though. Considering an apartment which can sleep 4, even 2 beach chairs would be much appreciated. The other mats also had holes in them. - TV - the tv in the living room is older and as such channels are pixelated as it cannot display a good picture. We could not watch it in evenings as it hurt our eyes. Again a small investment for much more quality offering. Overall the apartment seemed relatively clean with just a few callout points. We didn't use any crockery or glassware without washing them as most were not clean, there was even lipstick on some glasses. The bath/ shower could have been cleaner, in particular the mat within the shower. Finally the floors, we did not wear shoes in the apartment (as we wouldn't at home but also as per the many notes about this) yet even on day 1 our feet / socks became dirty quickly. I can only assume this had been swept but not mopped. We completely appreciate investment required to modernise a property, but think some small tweaks could make it an even better holiday rental.

Great view and location, but kinda old and dated

Great views and proximity to the beach! We slept on the pull out sofa so we could hear the ocean! The property manager was very friendly and helpful. It is an older property and could use a few updates but overall was clean and comfortable. Onsite parking right in front of the door is a huge plus also

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Once we were there, we loved it. After three family stays in the same place this year, it felt like home. Booking the first time was easy. The second time was average. The third time required a lot of explanations and discussions about # of nights, amount of $ "rolled over" from previous deposits, and a staff that made me feel that I was being unreasonable with pretty simple questions. For one instance, I booked through the 27th. We had meant to stay the night of the 27th, and it was booked far in advance, for their convenience, but I recognize my error (although their booking system looks nothing like any other hotel/homestay/bnb website/air travel site that I use). We went from booking a flight, using an calendar where you highlight the amount of days you want to stay, and then booking our Bailey property using the same logic (highlighting the days we'd be there) and ended up doing the wrong thing. Regardless, I ended up asking them about another night, and the response was firm, prompt, and rude! When made to feel like I was an idiot for one too few nights, I guess I expected a suggestion like...staying in another of their many properties... Instead it was "Well we have another guest coming in so you need to be out". Ok, thanks...I called Marriott to book the night of the 27th and had probably five "Can we help you with anything else?" -type questions. I mean, yeah, you can, and here's my money, and my five star review to you, Marriott. Sorry Bailey, for being so inconvenient when wanting another night at your properties. I was happy to spend my money elsewhere. That's what I will be doing in the future as well. Rio Cheshire is across the street and is way easier to book, in case you wanted to know.

Excellent location on Monterey Bay

The best thing about this unit was the location...right in the center of what we wanted to see and do. Also, it was quiet and peaceful with a view of the ocean. We would return.

Tiny in Paradise

The apartment was tiny but, clean. Bed was hard as a rock, stove larger burner didn’t work. Heater didn’t work so the apartment was cold all the time. Instructions were not understandable which made the vacation difficult.

Great view from the patio

Everything we need is there, we love the property, has own parkibg space, near grocerie store, very convenient and spacious for the 3 of us. We will definitely come back, nice beach compare to capitola beach.
