Casa Roc, Albiano
One of the most striking things about this lovely villa is its idyllic location, on the edge of a hillside village with every window overlooking the garden, the valley and the ancient, typically Tuscan, hill town of Barga. But it doesn't end there. The villa itself is as depicted and has all the amenities we could possibly require. It is spacious, tastefully decorated and furnished and the kitchen is very well equipped. There is a pleasant outside seating area with stunning views and we enjoyed using the gas barbecue every evening and sitting outside until late. With such a setting, why would you wish to eat and drink elsewhere? The lovely pool, with in-built Jacuzzi, is of a good size with plenty of sunbathing space around, and in mid-June we had sunshine from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. There is off-road parking space. Wifi worked consistently.
The small village of Albiano is a short walk away and has a restaurant. There is a very good Conad supermarket (the only such store for 40 miles or so), just a few miles away. Every trip does involve a short drive down a winding hillside road, but this is a very minor inconvenience and in some ways adds to the fun. Besides, without that there would be no fabulous views!
There are lots of things to see and do in the area, from touring the mountains, to visiting historic villages and towns, including the incredibly well preserved Lucca and, of course, Pisa.
The agents were available and most helpful when we needed them.
As inveterate villa-hirers, we loved our time here and, although we have never in the past returned to the same place again, this will be an exception to our rule.
