"If you are going to Coimbra to see the university and its ancient library, you couldn't ask for a better place to stay. Sapientia is across a small street from the entrance to the library and a few steps from the university. It's in the heart of the wonderful, old historic area of Coimbra. Our room was as large as an apartment and quite comfortable. Sapientia is built right on top of a 16th century cistern that you can see below the glass floor. One wall of the breakfast room/restaurant is part of an ancient wall belonging to the buildings that once stood there. It's very cool.
My only complaint about the hotel is the breakfast. It was strange. They have eggs, for example, but they are cold. Not cold as in 'cooled off' but actually ice cold. Same with the pancakes.
Oddly, we had dinner in the same space as the breakfast, and it was excellent. So one small complaint about an otherwise great place."
