  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

The AC in the house was amazing and it was such a relief to stay in a place that let me turn down to how I prefer to sleep. The only point of criticism I could make is that I slept in the second floor bedroom in the middle and while the bed and all the amenities were comfortable I will say that the nightstand tables were very flimsy and I think they might need new upgrades. Besides everything was clean and very enjoyable.

Beautiful home! Close to Ohio State University and the expressway.

The hosts were very flexible with my schedule. We stayed almost 2 weeks as we had a home remodeling project going on at our home that required a longer stay than expected. The communication with the host was excellent. They were accommodating.

Nice home

House was great, clean and comfortable. Attentiveness was amazing. House is old and I would not recommend if you have an older person who cannot do steps. They are narrow and I worried that my mother would fall so I spotted her every trip up and down. There are also not enough lights in the house or fixtures that work. I just like more light for safety. It’s close to osu campus with a short drive or bike ride so that means it can get loud outside. Place is perfect though for osu games. We were there to visit family down the street so it was perfect for us.
