THE ISLAND

Most of our visitors also take time to get to know the rest of this special island. Those who do quickly realize that they have discovered a hidden island gem just a short boat ride from the mainland. Quiet, laid-back, and unique, beautiful Daufuskie is described by old-timers as similar to Hilton Head before a bridge connected that island with the mainland. (Daufuskie's unofficial slogan is 'No Bridge? No Problem!')

When you choose this cottage for your vacation, you will find a perfect setting to experience a lovely low country island with a centuries-old cultural history, beautiful beaches, spectacular wildlife, and friendly residents.

The wildlife is abundant and breathtaking. You will be close to the site of a Great White Egret and Wood Storks rookery, where you will see hundreds of these graceful birds settle in for the night. A nest of American Bald Eagles can occasionally be spotted, and now and then vigilant visitors can actually catch sight of a Loggerhead Turtle coming ashore to lay hundreds of eggs in the soft sand.

Getting Around:
IMPORTANT: DAUFUSKIE ISLAND HAS NO BRIDGE, AND IT IS NECESSARY TO TAKE A FERRY OR WATER TAXI TO GET HERE. YOU WILL LEAVE YOUR CAR ON THE OTHER SIDE AND RENT A GOLF CART TO GET AROUND THE ISLAND.

Other Things to Note:
It is necessary to take a ferry or water taxi to Daufuskie Island, which is located between Hilton Head SC and Savannah, GA. We will be happy to help with trip preparations!

Well-behaved canine family members are welcome, but must be adult dogs, housetrained, must stay off of furniture, not be incessant barkers, and must be friendly towards humans and other dogs. Upon departure, the vacation home should look as though no pet had been in it, including removal of pet hair. There is a pet fee of $125 for one dog, and $175 for two dogs.
