The hotel is a splendid Portuguese-style colonial house with an open centre "courtyard" (now with a glass roof) and rooms arranged around the sides on three levels. Perfectly located close to the medina, port and beach, it is probably the best place to visit and explore Essaouira.
Our room (with a sea view) was spacious, clean and decorated in a pleasant colonial style, with old-fashioned ornaments and even had an working antique telescope.
You get a lovely view across the bay from the roof top terrace, where breakfast is served each morning. It can get a bit breezy and cool there first thing, but it is worth it for the view. Good continental style breakfast with fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries, bread, cake and coffee.
Sadly the restaurant on the ground floor doesn't get used in the evening, probably because they don't currently have a licence to sell alcohol. There are several good restaurants in close walking distance, so it isn't a major problem but if they got a licence, you'd be tempted to stay in the hotel for convenience.
