Wairarapa Bach Flat Point

Flat Point beach, just below Riversdale beach on the south Wairarapa coast - a good weekender - 2 hours drive from Wellington.
Enjoy the tranquil country atmosphere at a bach with modern facilities. 3min walk to a safe swimming beach with abundant sea life and a reef to explore on low tides.
Surfing, swimming, and diving with good boat launching access. An efficient woodburner ensures a toasty warm bach even in a southerly.

PLEASE NOTE: Some furniture will differ however will update the photos early March (-:

Special Conditions:
Pillows and Duvets supplied. Guest are expected to supply their own linen, including tea towels, sheets and pillow cases.

NOTE:
Under Kiwi bach traditions you are expected to clean the house and do the dishes before you leave, ready for other guest to enjoy.

Best kept secret in Wairarapa

A great bach for a weekend getaway nestled amongst the Flatpoint settlement. A short walk to the beach which was a great place to explore and spot wild life - including a seal. Well equipped kitchen and the log burner kept the house toasty on a wet and windy day. Thanks for having us at your special holiday spot.

Birthday Weekend

We stayed from Friday afternoon to Monday morning to celebrate my birthday. Beautiful spot and the house feels like a proper kiwi bach. Plenty of firewood although we hardly needed it as the place gets lots of sun. They rely on people leaving the place clean as it is a long way from anywhere and it was acceptable but not sparkling.The swimming is good nearby although there are warnings about the currents between the shore and the reef.Thank you.

The location was great, but the room facilities were outdated, and the cleanliness, particularly in the bathroom, left much to be desired. I had intended to stay another night, but after discovering the poor condition of the facilities and hygiene upon check-in, I decided to move to another hotel after just one night.

Amazing location and setup.

We loved our time in this beautiful space - the location is incredible and the layout of the deck and rooms gives a bit of privacy from the other places. The people before us hadn't quite kept to the owners expectations re cleaning, which wasn't a major but was a shame. The owners were great to deal with; super responsive and clear communication. A great little getaway.

Great location and a stunning coast line for a weekend getaway. House is excellent for a family with plenty of room regardless of the weather. A real sun trap. Great location for a dive or surf casting.

Remote and relaxing just what was needed

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Bach, the beach was lovely with lots of treasures to be found by the kids, saw a couple of seals and the best part was the reading and relaxing, the only downside was, I wish we had more time there. Highly recommend this place

Quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Bring binoculars

Open plan kitchen/living area, 3 bedrooms and separate rooms for the loo and shower/bath. Decks out front and back. Lovely view. There’s a wood burner and loads of logs under the house. The house is fairly well insulated. Shops are 90mins away in Carterton. Bring loo paper! Tap water is from a tank and had a bit of an odd taste, fine for kettle & washing up. We brought bottled water for drinking. Kitchen has the usuals. We couldn’t get the BBQ to light so used long matches that we brought - not sure if matches supplied. The gas for water heating ran out while we were there. The owner was quick to respond and told us how to switch to the other tank. Wind dial closed on existing tank (lighter), flick a switch and then wind dial open on other tank (heavier). About 40 baches in the area with a few for sale. Not sure if there are any perm residents. The McGuiness family own 7000ha and subdivided for baches. Apparently the airstrip was built to save the son having to go to Masterton for flying lessons. We couldn’t get a mobile signal but there’s internet (~30Mbps) via a microwave link to the hilltop. Lots of paua shells on beach. Check tide times as walking easier at low tide. Walk access to beach via a path (right at the bach road T junction). The bach keyring has a red key for gate to drive onto the beach (over the single lane bridge & turn right). Last 25km of gravel road was tedious. A bit hair raising on the final bit of road - down hill/narrow with bits washed away!
