Enjoy the best possible site for visiting the St John's area. a
Approximately 20 minutes from the airport, this house has it all, with plenty of outdoor seating, wooded area behind the house, ocean in front. Great for families or couples. Twenty to twenty five minutes to downtown St John's and it's fine restaurants and art galleries as well as its colorful houses. A big attraction here is the close access to the East Coast Trail, just minutes from your front door.

As you enter, you immediately know that you are in a special place. Facing you is the large and extremely well equipped kitchen, a sunny family room and a dining room and living room with a panoramic view of the ocean and the surrounding cliffs. Open the door and step out on the veranda which surrounds three sides of the house. Sit on the colorful Adirondack chairs and take a deep breath. You realize that you have arrived in the vacation home of your dreams! Take a stroll through the garden where you can, in season, pick fresh lettuce, Swiss chard, green onions for your salad plus a variety of herbs.. Enjoy the flowers and trees on all sides. In September there are potatoes, carrots and turnips.

Upstairs has two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The master bedroom with queen mattress is large and bright with windows facing the ocean. You will wake up to the gentle lap of the waves against the shore or maybe the crash of waves against the rocks. The master bath has a walk in shower, plus a free standing tub, perfect for relaxing in after a long day hiking or sight seeing. All the bathrooms are well supplied with soap, shampoo and conditioner and lots of good quality towels.
The second bedroom also has a queen bed and own bathroom . It has an ocean view plus a view of the valley to the west.
The third bedroom is located in a Casita situated next to the main house. This very pretty and spacious room has a queen bed and full bathroom. Two large windows provide excellent light plus a great ocean view.

The laundry room, with detergent supplied, is located on the second floor.

If needed, a fourth sleeping area would be in the family room, where we have a sofa bed to which we add a very comfortable double mattress. As this is not a private space we would recommend it only for children. But many adults have slept there without a problem..

If you like games, we have Bocci and croquet. For indoor fun, card games and scrabble.

Beautiful house at Flatrock exceeded our expectations. Perched on a hill overlooking Flatrock Point and Red Head, it was a perfect location for a quiet respite or a short commute to St. John's. From the wrap-around deck you could watch the fishermen coming in with their catch. Or you can pick wild blueberries behind the house. The home is spacious, well maintained and fully stocked with basic necessities. Eileen and Glenn are excellent hosts and willing to help in any situation. We highly recommend this property and only regret not staying longer.

Perfectly outfitted house with spectacular views, very good beds, comfortable couches, good kitchen supplies. Eileen and Glenn were very responsive to questions. Eileen gave us freshly baked blueberry cake and garden vegetable for salad. Flatrock is a great location for hiking and quick runs to St. John's. If we return,Mathis is where we will stay.

Absolutely perfect! The view, the house, the host, the whole experience. We arrived late to blueberry buckle on the counter using the wild blueberries in the yard. There were raised beds with produce, lavender bushes by the front door and a wonderful waterfall hike recommended by the host. I would give it ten stars if I could.

A slice of paradise

The property is lovely, well maintained and perfectly situated with a stunning view of the ocean. We enjoyed watching lobster fishermen pull up their traps and the seagulls dining on unwanted fish.Eileen and Glenn are great hosts.

Great place, great time!

We loved this location. It had all the amenities topped of with a great view of the ocean. Comfortable, clean, located close to trails and not too far from St. John's also. Our hosts provided everything we needed while being very responsive to our requests. I wouldn't change a thing.

Great Location & View

The property was larger than I expected. Our boys - 14, 12 & 10 enjoyed exploring the property and nearby forest. Every night after dinner we walked along the trails beside the ocean and enjoyed the views of the cliffs and fishing boats.We also sat on the porch with a glass of wine or coffee and listened to the waves. The location is great. There are several things to do in the area. The cottage was perfect - great view of the ocean especially from the master bedroom and the bunkie. All the amenities we needed including a great high end bbq. The hosts were great too. Very quick to respond to questions.

Relaxation in Flatrock

The property was clean and comfortably appointed. We loved every aspect of the home and the view. I especially enjoyed the brightly coloured sunrises in the early morning while listening to the ocean waves on the beach. It was close to St. John's and easy to get there for cruises and sight seeing. We had a wonderful time and would definitely return there on our next visit to the area. Eileen was very welcoming and helpful on things to see in the area. It was easily a 12 out of 10!

Paradise along the Coast

This property is absolutely amazing from its wrap around porch, the stunning views overlooking the bay, the home comforts and the beautiful gardens. It is only a short 20 min drive to St. John’s. Flat Rock is close to a small Foodland/liquor store and there are a few restaurants. We spent the most amazing 4 nights here. The extra bedroom/bathroom in the red building is so cozy and the views won’t disappoint.

Worth a special trip!

We just finished our second stay at Flat Rock. Eileen and Glenn are perfect hosts and the home is absolutely perfect. It sits on a gorgeous hill above the harbour and the views are spectacular. The home is so well equipped that you need no condiments, potatoes, rice,etc.. Check before you shop! It’s the BEST EVER, not to be missed.

Lack of Professionalism.

We rented this property for a place to sleep during our wedding weekend which took place at a venue in the same town. As the bride, we wanted somewhere close by for convenience and this was just the place. The night before the wedding we checked in at 4-5 pm and dropped our luggage and left for a funeral visitation that was unexpected and locked the door. As it happens,our son arrived with his bags to a locked door and he waited on the front patio overlooking the water until we returned. The host drove by the home a few times while he was sitting there and then drove up into the driveway. She was received as very rude with her approach and intimidating. Our son was asked if he was the 5th person in the reservation and also asked for the 50$ extra for the extra person. She stated she was not leaving without it, fortunately she did leave and I sent her a text message apologizing for not reaching out to her and sent a 50$ E-transfer right away to cover the extra person. We returned to the property that night at 8pm or thereabouts and there were a few things not acceptable. The coffee pot still contained old coffee in the pot and coffee grinds, the garbage bin outside where we were expected to put garbage upon checking out already contained garbage that had been left there, the sink and shower drains were clogged in the main house. This would not have been a problem if the initial meeting on the front patio wasn’t so unprofessional. We left the home very clean on Sunday.

Comfort with a view!

We stayed 5 nights at this beautiful property equipped with all the comforts of home and more! Garden boxes, a stocked pantry, beautiful sitting room, bedrooms with ocean views and a wrap around deck that welcomes you each morning with a cup of coffee and each evening to enjoy your ice cream cone. Whale watched from the deck, took walks along Flatrock and drove to St. Vincent beach to whale watch, into St. Johns, and across to the community of Dildo. We even ventured to Elliston for a day trip to see the Puffins. The added room was just as beauitful as the house with a full bathroom and view of the ocean. Love the location, and the comforts and ease it brings for a well enjoyed and memorable visit to Nfld. Look forward to being back!
