“What a lovely place. Off the beaten track, but well worth finding. Has proper old time charm but is in excellent condition. Room was a generous size, bed was comfy, bathroom was clean. Meal choice was super and the quality matched. Would definitely recommend a stay here.”

“Stayed for one night, the bar area was really busy when I arrived at around 1845hrs. Booking in was straightforward and the room was comfortable with an en-suite. The locals in the bar were very welcoming and friendly. I had a full breakfast, which was excellent, the staff were also very friendly. If you are looking for somewhere to stay, the location is an excellent base for touring the area, and the price of rooms are good value. ”

“This an innovative property developed by a local Trust which restored a historic building in a declining neighborhood into a combined art gallery, conference facilty, bistro and hostel. It is modern, clean, and close to many fine restaurants and bus and train transportation. This is an excellent location for access to Edinburgh to the north, Newcastle to the south, and nearby tourist attractions, and affordable! ”

“Wonderful hosts and excellent service. The bar is a friendly pub frequented by locals as well as residents. We were allocated the family room although only the two of us. It was very spacious. There is a separate restaurant where breakfast is served. Breakfast was great and apart from cereal everything is served to you table. We ate dinner in the hotel and it was amazing (wish now I had taken photos!), we had the chowder which was homemade to order and had them ordered the pork and black……
