The Paddle Shack was amazing and exceeded our expectations. The pictures were fine and the hot tub sold us but staying here was so much more. The Paddle Shack was beautifully decorated with attention to detail and function. The kitchen was well stocked, comfy robes were provided, linens and towels were in great shape, cozy blankets were scattered around to cuddle up. We enjoyed the large deck morning, afternoon, and night. (we even had a whale swim through as we enjoyed our coffee on the deck) We sat by the fire overlooking the water, we read in the hammock, we enjoyed the hot tub. Karen and Duncan were gracious hosts that answered questions promptly. It was a great place to spend a few days. Thank you for sharing this special place with us.

We had a wonderful, relaxing time at this beautiful location. The property was very clean and well maintained. They had everything you would need to accommodate your stay. We saw plenty of wildlife while staying there including seals, sea lions, dolphins, bald eagle, deer and a fox. Had a seal that hung out in the ocean just in front of the large deck almost every day. We loved eating lunch at the outdoor bar that overlooks the ocean. We sipped coffee every morning on the lower deck to watch the sunrises and wildlife. The cool weather made the hot tub especially enjoyable. We enjoyed the sunsets and kept warm with the outdoor propane fire pit. Our kids loved playing the outdoor games on the deck. The hosts were very quick to reply to a couple of questions we had. There was plenty to do on the island for small day trips as well. We would not hesitate to come back for a future stay.

This property was the perfect home base for exploring the San Juan Islands. There were actually MORE surprises and amenities than were even listed, including an entire second bedroom, kids outdoor games, a scooter.... not to mention we had a local seal friend who put on a hunting show every day we were there! The views are beautiful, feels rustic but only 5 minutes from the downtown harbor, and the stargazing! Man, talk about no light pollution. When (not if) we return to the San Juan Islands, we WILL be staying here again. The photo I added is an actual photo of me on the deck, as an eagle flies by (not AI, not photoshopped, 100% real)

We had such a lovely time at this property! The location was perfect and we spent hours on that gorgeous deck, taking in the view. All of the decor was tasteful and modern and the beds were very comfortable! Note that this place does add a pet fee for bringing a fur baby, and does not have a grill. Communication with our host was smooth and friendly, though we did need to stay in close contact with them to coordinate the spa getting fixed and propane tank getting swapped, since the spa was not working and propane tank was out when we arrived. Overall, it was a really nice stay.

Back in the ‘80s there was a real estate phrase that was used to explain a properties value:“It’s the view stupid”And that my friends is the priceless quality of this house, everything else is just the frosting.The decor is a treat unto itself and its tasteful palette of colors did a perfect job of connecting the inside to the out.It was a lovely quiet except for the gun shot tail slaps of the seals frolicking below the deck ( miles and miles of decks)Clean, great beds. Totally a wonderful experience all around. The only real negative was the 250.00 dog fee. Hard to swallow when you have a non shedding 14 lb bichon. I was aware of it when we reserved, but it was a bit of a shadow on my week otherwise perfect week.

We stayed at the Paddle Shack for three nights. I wish we could have stayed longer. The property itself was immaculate, and the views were STUNNING!!! The location was also great, just 5min out of Friday Harbor. Karen and Duncan were more than helpful and quick to respond to any questions I had leading up to, and during, our stay. My teenage kids spent a lot of time on the huge deck playing games and enjoying the nice weather while watching boats go by. We looked at a lot of VRBO's on San Juan Island, and I am SO glad we chose this one.

San Juan Bliss

The home is nestled in the trees and right on the water. The multi-level decks provided opportunities to enjoy the tranquil and expansive views of the water and surrounding islands.We enjoyed all of our meals outdoors and took advantage of the hot tub and sauna before enjoying the sunset and blanket of stars in front of the gas fire pit. Minutes from the marina in Friday Harbor, Definitely a 5 star experience!

A Magical Stay at The Paddle Shack!

Our stay at The Paddle Shack was absolutely unforgettable. It was everything we hoped for—and more! I stayed with my 7-year-old, and we were both in awe from the moment we arrived.The outdoor space was perfect: yard games, a hammock for relaxing, and a hot tub that made for some cozy evenings. One evening, we watched a family of orcas and two humpbacks right from the deck—truly breathtaking. We also spotted countless bald eagles throughout our stay. Nature lovers, this is your dream spot. We were able to walk to the bottom of the deck and see bioluminescence right in the backyard. It felt like a dream! Inside, the heated bathroom floors were such a treat, and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook and feel at home. Every detail had been thoughtfully considered.Duncan and Karen were incredibly kind and helpful, offering great advice before our trip and making us feel completely welcome.10/10 recommend—already dreaming of our next visit!

We've been to the San Juans several times. This lovely peaceful quiet home with a simply gorgeous view was a pure delight. The kitchen was equipped wonderfully, the beds were great and we loved every minute. I wish we were still there! Thank you. Wow!

Peaceful Escape

Our family of four had an amazing stay! The property felt isolated, yet we were less than 10 minutes from town. We saw eagles, ducks, foxes, sea otters, seals, crabs, and porpoises, all from the balcony. It really was magical and there was so much to do on San Juan. I recommend this property for anyone that loves nature, craves peace, and seeks adventure on the island! Bonus- the owners were so considerate and accommodating. Wonderful hosts!

If you want a beautiful view, this is your place. Amazing deck, hot tub, & sauna too!The beds are comfy, bathrooms are tidy & nice showers. The owners have taken a rustic shack & updated it nicely. Kitchen has everything you need, all newer appliances & adequately outfitted for those who like to cook.Communication with owners was great. They got back to us immediately & sent somebody out to answer our questions.We will definitely be back!

Dream getaway

The property location was perfect. The house and amenities were an absolute dream. We stayed on the property for 2 out of our 3 day stay and were never bored. We bought groceries off the island to save money and had everything we needed to cook in the kitchen. The wildlife, hot tub, deck and sauna was enough entertainment. From the huge deck We saw harbor seals, harbor porpoises and so many gorgeous birds including bald eagles. The house was immaculate and has all the nicest touches including spa robes and heated tile floors. Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience

Fantastic home and host!

This property was beautiful. It was everything my husband and I wanted for a quiet get away. The home is within minutes of town, and while there are neighbors close by the space is very private and quiet. The hot tub and sauna were a nice addition. Very clean and comfortable. For dog owners with *picky* dogs - because of the homes location, there is not much of a yard so we did have to walk our dog up the road until she found a spot she was satisfied with for going #2, but that was not a big deal to us at all. The outdoor space is where we spent most of our time and it was so relaxing and peaceful. We would absolutely stay here again!

Perfection on the Salish Sea!

We had the best week here! Perfect little house with the most amazing view over the ocean. The house was lovely, the hot tub was perfect, the home was so private, immaculate and clean, and the kindest hosts we've ever worked with. They even helped us reserve a great day kayaking with Outdoor Odyseas. Such a fun day! Thank you Duncan and Karen for an amazing stay on San Juan Island!

Peaceful Paradise

I stayed here over Labor Day weekend with my dog and we had the loveliest time. San Juan Island is such a beautiful place and this was the perfect base camp to explore everything. The home was easy to find which was helpful because I arrived in the dark around 11 pm. All of the instructions to enter and use the amenities were easy to follow. Well stocked kitchen and incredible wine glasses!!! I won't forget this view.
