The firehouse smartly used firefighting equipment to decorate the property and apartments inside. Laundry is available to all who stay there. Walked one block to several fine dining options. Totally recommend this property to anyone traveling to/through Hokitika.

The owners have created a fantastic product with the Fire Station and provided a great base for our activities around Hokitika incl bike riding and trips to the Glaciers, Hok Gorge and Lake Kaniere. The accomodation is in easy walking distance of everything incl the beach, very well maintained with great support staff who we met.

The property itself could not have been better - easy to find and access after a long day's driving, warm and comfortable. The surrounds could not have been more disappointing. We knew from several previous days of disappointment that it was shoulder season on the West Coast, but could you please not pretend that local restaurants are open until 10pm when they laugh at anybody asking for dinner at 8pm. I mean we had learned by Monday that 10pm clearly was not true, but we foolishly assumed that turning up two hours earlier than the times given in your in-room info might work. It did not, and nothing about your vastly superior accommodation will induce me to ever again visit a town that clearly doesn't care about anybody other than coach tour groups.

Beautifully appointed studio with the friendliest staff. Location was perfect, parking easy, and the use of a real washing machine (meaning one that washes in more than 25 mns for clean clothes) was a bonus.

The Hokitika Fire Station is a lovely place to stay. Very comfortable, spacious, clean, complete with all the amenities we needed and wanted. We'd happily stay there again and regret only staying for one night. It is in a good location with parking just behind the building. The beach is a short walk away as is the main street with various dining, drinking and shopping options. We think it is great that a historical building has been preserved in such a way with a strong tie to it's history and the local community.

Communication regarding restaurants in the area was excellent, with menus included i the guest book. We did have a lot of trouble checking in. If you book through Expedia, the hotel management does not send you access codes directly and Expedia does not forward them to you. There are phone numbers at the door, but my U.S. phone could not reach the numbers. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to have a kind guest who used his phone to call and get the access codes, and lucky enough that someone answered the phone. Without access codes you can't get into the building and if you are able to get into the building based on a kind guest, you can't get into your suite. With that said, the suite was wonderful and we enjoyed the area. The owner/manager is obviously very thoughtful and considerate.
