Staff have the winning way
Outstanding staff, amazing service.
Building a little tired, needs some love but the welcome and feeling we had on arrival and during the stay made it really great.

Okish!
I thought that the manager was really welcome when i arrived. I purchased the family room and stayed for 3 nights. On the second day i arrived back to my room being left wide open (i am not clear if this was from the cleaner or if someone had been in my room). When I raised this with reception, she commented how she would make a note of this and did not seem to appreciate how his may have impacted on me. I was in a annex or separate building (as it was a family room) and there was 1 room above me. The problem with this was that every time the person in the room above me moved, i heard him. This impacted on my quality of sleep. Other than the afformentioned, i found the accomodation clean.
Very friendly staff, food was good and beds comfortable

A perfectly adequate overnight stop. Staff were friendly and helpful, eg immediately offered a different twin room for adult sons when we said first one smelled of cigarettes and damp. Swapped room was much nicer. Both double and twin rooms were completely clean and cosy in December once radiators were switched on. Easy to find and parking on site was useful.

Funnily enough i will stay again
I did love the location the staff and all as i wanted away from the hussle and bussle but i thought it could be cleaner
But i am a clean freak
Easy to reach and in a relatively quiet location. Ample parking. Service very good, and the hotel is clean and cared for. But my room was uncomfortably warm and the window didn't open far enough to cool it down, and I thought the bed was overly soft.
Arrived and wasn’t even able to get into the property, therefore couldn’t even stay the night. The hotel then wouldn’t even offer a refund despite not staying there. I had to spend another £70 to get a hotel elsewhere.
Had a bad start that for worse. Booked online and charged again on check in. Run down hotel. Meal not charged in the morning and staff struggled to refund their error. Phone calls chasing food bill and checked to make sure not already charged and when rang Back to pay they had already taken the funds. Arrogant call from customer services. Would not recommend at all. Badly run disorganised hotel.
First Location- NO. Second Location - Definite Yes
Arrived and was placed outside the hotel in the Service area in a black wooden building. Room was not clean, bugs and chair broken. Immediately requested different room. Told none available due to Ed Sheeran concert the day before. Regardless, I booked this hotel months before and immediately paid upon arrival. Was required to stay in that room for 1 night. Then was moved the next day to another location in Claydon which was much better. Frankie, the Manager of these location, was very accommodating and immediately ensure that we were well taken care of in moving to this new location. After we moved the room was what we expected and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Would we stay there again? Not in the first location which should never have been used for any guests. The second location would be a definite Yes. Thank you Frankie, Gill, Teresa and staff who made our stay of 2 weeks wonderful!
I liked that it was in a quiet location, no traffic noise, and excellent service by the staff. Disliked that the bath/ shower could be a challenge for elderly or physically unstable visitors, and no night lights for reading in bed, room lights on or off, no in-between.
Fantastic little bolt hole here only6 quid in taxi to Portman road to see rodders..room for 3 was like a mini apartment..bathroom and beds spotless and staff were so accommodating..also loved the quaint little bar.. Will definitely use this establishment again **** and more from me
Cannot complain, fairly basic the only thing I would say is the shower tray is very slippery even before I used soap & there was no handle to grab inside
Staff always friendly & helpful
We enjoyed a wonderful four night stay at The Gatehouse. The staff were so friendly, helpful and kind. The bed could have done with being a little longer and wider but that would be our only negative comment. Would certainly recommend this hotel and particularly the staff.
One of the best business hotels I have stayed in Ipswich. The staff are friendly, prices competitive, rooms well equipped and food good. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Hotel was well located and of a decent standard. This was let down badly by the dinner service. The team were pleasant enough however... On arrival about 5:40pm, I asked when dinner was served and was advised 7pm - 9pm. I booked a table for 7pm as I was very hungry. I arrived in the dining room and was seated at 6:55pm and given the menu's to select from. My food did not arrive at my table until 8:18pm... during which time I was not acknowledged or apologised to until the food finally arrived. There was no gesture of goodwill, no drink on the house at all... Very poor - The waitress simply said, sorry for the wait, we've been extremely busy.... I was second into the dining room??
Really let down the hotel - so much so that I didn't dare go for breakfast as I couldn't bear the thought of a delayed start to my day.
Shame as the hotel had good potential.
We stayed at Holiday In on the old Norwich Road. We got up early because we had to be in London at a specific time. There was NO hot water for a shower, and nobody at reception to help us. When we checked out, we left comments to the effect we were dissatisfied with the hot water situation, but there was no concern expressed, or offer to make it right. I will never stay at that location again. We are Holiday Inn loyalty members, and I am disappointed that we were treated so poorly. On a positive note, we stayed at London Road Holiday Inn the next week and it was great.
We enjoyed our stay very much, the staff -Marina one of them and her sister- went out of their way to ensure our stay was phenomenal. The premises are lovely with a grand back garden perfect for a morning stroll, complete with squirrels, rabbits, and birds, including an apple or two!
Room extremely nice.
Staff very attentive and helpful plus friendly.
Food excellent
This hotel deserves more stars.

Clean hotel but VERY dated!
Had a 1 night stay here with my son as a last minute stop over on a weekend outing and used a hotels.com free night. Although generally clean the hotel is VERY dated and needs some serious investment. My room which was very near reception was very small for a double but was adequate for 1 night, my biggest complaint would be that my curtains didn’t close properly so the room had constant light from streets lights or day light. Although it claims 24 hour reception it is only manned till 11pm after then there is a porter contactable via phone which makes the building seem very isolated!
Would stay here again but only if it was cheap and not for more than 1 night
