We didn't have a pet with us.
I went out each day and did a sketch or two. The area is very special and an artists dream. My wife would spend her time exploring further up the valley etc., while I sat and sketched.
Stone circles. Not as profound as Stonehenge, but some of the oldest settings with stones. I always enjoy these places because I think that life was hard enough in those times long ago....and yet it was important to the people of the time.

A pleasure to wake up to that beautiful view in the morning. The barn was lovely, it felt like staying in an elder relatives place with lots of lovely books and stuff. It was bigger then I expected. Not near any shops and no eating places without travelling but plenty of lovely walks and peace and quiet. The only downside their was no instructions regarding bins (only one that was full,) couldn't get TV on, couldn't work heating. The log fire was so cosy in the evening so that made up for this.

The Fold - superb lower-price getaway for those appreciating the country

The cottage was an ideal base to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside. It was very spacious, perfect for the two of us and we never tired of the amazing view. We hope to return once if not twice next year!

Amazing stay overlooking the sheep

Absolutely incredible location for anyone looking to take a pause from a busy lifestyle and enjoy the wonderful English countryside. From picking up fresh eggs from a Neighbor to sitting back and literally counting the sheep it was a dream.

Very nice

Had a lovely stay at the cottage. Cottage was very clean and tidy. Dog's loved the garden all enclosed. Plenty to do out and about. Would definitely go here again Diane

Good for the souk

Spacious with fantastic views, and friendly neighbours (cows and sheep). Perfectly placed for walking. Quiet, a real get away. Very well equipped.

Peace and quiet

Fabulous

We stayed here with our dog and the place was fantastic. Lovely cool floors to lay on for when he got too hot as the weather was gorgeous. The little village was perfect for our early morning walk, up to the church, down to the Ford or on the bridal ways. The property was just right for us and a great base to explore the surrounding area wether it’s in Cumbria, the dales or Durham. We had some great adventures. Thanks

Holiday with hubby and dogs

The property could do with updating. The seating and bed were hard and uncomfortable. The cupboard handles were coming off. Cobwebs behind furniture and the pans were dirty. I wouldn't stay there again.

The cottage requires updating equipment especially the kitchen equipment. Very old fridge and microwave if people are to let property they should make sure that all house hold equipment should be updated. The garden requires weeding and attention Would not stay there again

A wonderful place for our best travel

The Landlord (better Landlady) has been very friendly and extremly helpful! We were sure to find the way to that house very easy with google-navy. BUT the Landlady wrote us before starting a better way to reach "The Fold" without problems. With her help we really arrived without problems. Sometimes we trusted google-navy- and suddenly we found ourselves in the darkness in between 20 sheeps in a very small briddleway. Better not to use google!!! The house was cosy and comfortable; the mattress was very good to sleep on, all rooms were light and my special love was the wintergarden! The view out of all windows has been simply great! You can recognize that everything in house and garden is cared for with love. We have been there when it was going to be colder outside, but we could use an oven with wood lying in the garden and the heating was on in the morning and later on. It was OK, because we have been out for walks most of the day. Everything was fine and for sure we'll come again to this beautiful house and landscape.

The Loft

Quiet country get away. Superb location and views. Spacious for 2. Advise to bring toilet rolls and bin liners, your own pillows if you don't like thin ones. Be aware no sofa and 2 armchairs present are firm.

Gemütliche Ferienbleibe

"The Fold" war ein tolles Häuschen, in dem wir uns über den Urlaub hinweg super wohl gefühlt haben! Es hat viel ländlichen Charme, ist zwar nicht 'geleckt' sauber, aber sehr hygienisch und nach normalen Standards zum Wohlfühlen. Es bietet Platz zum Zurückziehen und auch zum gemütlichen Zusammensitzen (allem voran den traumhaften Wintergarten) und ist - mit eigenem Auto - ein schöner Ausgangspunkt für viele Unternehmungen. Am Abend hat man sich immer wieder auf und über das Heimkommen gefreut!

September break.

As stated in previous reviews the property is much bigger than it looks from the photos, plenty of space, a lovely quiet location with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Ideal base for walking, we thorough enjoyed our week.

Lovely retreat in quiet countryside

I really enjoyed my stay here. It’s a lovely cottage and is clearly the owners home for part of the year which means it feels homely and not like a soulless rental cottage. Lots of interesting walks in the area and not far to drive to Kirkby Stephen and other places for pubs. Perfect for my little writing holiday.

dales delight

Our stay at the fold was excellent,much larger than portrayed on the site. Lovely setting in the village with great views from the windows at the rear of the property over fields to the hills in the distance.The only downside for us was the lack of comfortable seating in the lounge, a sofa would have been so much better. Overall it was a very good property and we enjoyed our holiday there.
