Scrimgeour Beach House

This beach house was just lovely. A blast from the past right across the street from a private entrance to the beach. The kitchen had EVERYTHING! Truly! The 3 bedrooms and two baths were very nice. The living/dining room was open. And the sun deck and porch had views of the ocean. Really everything you need for a great OBX experience!

Needs attention!

Let me begin by saying, we have 2 VRBO properties in Wilmington, and realize things happen. HOWEVER: Exterior is dingy and needs a good power washing and touch up painting. Deck furniture was dirty. Grill was disgusting. Spent an hour cleaning it before we could use it. Could not see out of the windows because they were filthy. Ask for batteries for TV remotes, never received them. Stove needs a good cleaning. Not worth nightly rate. Great location!

Very nice with a couple of problems

Great location, beautiful beach with easy access. Very roomy and well managed. 2 safety issues stand out: the back yard is full of small cacti very hard to see in the grass. Because the yard is partly fenced and this is a dog-friendly property, naturally I tried to walk my dog here. Within 10 feet both her feet/legs and my sturdy shoes were impaled by hundreds of long, sharp needles. Getting her out of there was a nightmare. The removal process was very painful. How about a warning sign in the yard? The 2nd safey issue was also bad: the top step of the front stairs is very narrow, making it hard to step out and pull the door shut behind you without falling. The top "landing" was only half as wide as my size 9 shoes, and downright treacherous. There's no handrail for the first 3 or 4 steps, making this even more dangerous. New mattresses would be a great idea! We all left with sore backs. Batteries in the clocks were dead and better lighting would really cheer the place up! Pros: Staff is very friendly and helpful. House is clean and secure. Close to everything. Just needs a few tweaks, especially a safer front stair. out
