About this property
Waterfront Treasure - Main WIE House
Blackbeard's Treasure might not be here, but you will make treasured memories! The WIE Village is unique in many ways...made from mostly local OBX re-purposed materials, combined with charm, accommodate 2 to 10 people. Two pods & main house borders 1600 acres of nature preserve within 2 mi of the beach. To accommodate larger parties, reserve Pod Messi &/or Pod Zeus in addition to Main House. These listings can be found under my profile! Search "WIE House, Virginian-Pilot" for more information! The space This space adopted a Giant Tortoise - Travel with Purpose when you stay with us and assist in global efforts to help save this beautiful endangered species! This 1200 square feet home is a combination of mostly re-purposed wood from several houses, that have been torn down to make room for bigger beach houses. It has a fantastic beachy feel to it, and though it has a small footprint the feeling is spacious. Includes a fireplace to take the chill off. The WIE House is SO very unique it made it into the 2016 OBX Parade of Homes...learn more about the amenities and layouts by Googling "Parade of Homes OBX 2016" and go to House #11 ! Look forward to having you to one of the most unique properties you will ever stay in!!!! Guest access You will have the whole main house to yourself and your guests, including GOURMET Kitchen with a drip-style coffee maker! You will also have access to the sound (weather permitting) and a tandem kayak. (The kayak is available on a first-come first-serve basis as it can be used by any guests staying at the WIE Village.)
New for 2026: a private dock has been added, giving you even easier access to the water!!
Other things to note This is a beautiful waterfront location, and it may change your attitude for ever. Below is the story behind the WIE Village ! With green building in mind, we look to reuse and re-purpose materials that are left over from building large homes to create The WIE House. The first WIE House location is in an environmentally critical area, The Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina.
This concept is not unique to the OBX, as we would like to see it grow to any location where there are leftover materials on the job-site. Whether it be a remodel job or new construction, the benefits to this project are the use of leftover building materials, resulting in less forest destruction, filling of landfills, all while cutting expenses for all involved!
The WIE House is small in physical size, but big in quality of living. The WIE House is built to be as maintenance-free, and as energy-efficient as possible; including environmentally friendly items such as, metal roofs, rain water wine barrels to water landscaping, passive solar energy to maintain all exterior lighting, and all permeable walkways to prevent runoff to name a few!
A walkway will wind you up to the house that sits atop a hill and because lot clearing is kept to a minimum no driving of vehicles allowed on the lot.
Another goal of The WIE House concept is for local municipalities to get on board and see the value of higher density houses on property as opposed to the single Mega-Home!
The first WIE House was built on a lot owned by Jim Douglas on the Roanoke Sound, bordering the Kitty Hawk Maritime Forest became available for rent during Spring 2017.

Wonderful place to stay, Host and property were everything we expected. Great location in proximity to plenty of entertainment. Looking foreword to staying at the WIE house again next year.
My family and I loved our stay! Beautiful place and great little spot that makes you feel secluded. Owner was extremely helpful and quick to respond. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy the Outer Banks.
We stayed with a couple of friends and it was a great getaway. Off the the beaten path but close enough to all that OBX has to offer. The house was very clean and well maintained. The view of the sound was great as well.
We had an awesome stay in the WIE house. The property feels secluded, yet it’s only minutes away from restaurants and shopping. The front side of the home gives you a “cabin in the woods” vibe while the backside of the home has a wonderful view of the sound. We enjoyed the sunsets each evening. Check in/check out was seamless and the host was very prompt with responding to communication. I would definitely stay here again!
This house was amazing! Every space was tastefully decorated. Beds were super comfortable and the showers were huge! We only stayed one night so i was sad we had to leave!! Both decks are amazing as well and outdoor furniture is so comfortable!! i would definitely like to come back and stay a-little longer!!
We absolutely loved everything about our stay! Gia was an amazing communicator and made everything in regards to our stay simple, from check in to check out. The house was a beautiful, eclectic home. It was very obvious that great care had gone into decorating this unique home and it was spotlessly clean! We enjoyed having our coffee on the top deck each morning and watching the sunset over the water each evening.
I can’t say enough about how great this was. Gia was so helpful, friendly, professional and just an all-around nice person with whom to deal. The property itself was amazing… I will be posting pictures of the most amazing sunsets. The home was beautifully decorated and yet homey and comfortable. I highly recommend this property, and Gia herself. Thank you for a fabulous and much-needed vacation.
Very clean and comfortable, with decor more interesting than kitsch for a change. Kitchen is the best setup for cooking that we've seen a quite a long time of many rentals - a professional-level gas stove, and fully equipped with pots/pans/cutting boards/etc. Carawan's Seafood is but a couple of minutes away, terrific. Beds firm. There is some traffic noise outside from the bridge - distant, but unimpeded since across the water - otherwise, things are pretty much perfect. We saw river otter, deer, lots of ospreys from the house; and the beach and multiple maritime forest hikes are close by since you're in between Nags Head and Duck/Corolla.
The main house was the perfect setting for a quick getaway to the OBX! The location feels incredibly private, even with the pods on either side, and was beautifully appointed. Despite feeling a world away from it all, we could be at shops and restaurants in three minutes. Absolutely the best of both worlds! We definitely look forward to coming back in the future.
Awesome, unique property, ideally situated for exploring the Outer Banks. Beautifully decorated, very clean, and equipped with everything you need for a vacation stay. It was hard for all of us to leave when our trip came to an end.
Wonderful location for time away. Really comfortable beds Great to sit and relax on the porch. It rained almost every day we were there so it was great to have the wifi to watch movies! Our host was great and had some wonderful suggestions
Stayed for a short weekend. Place was very easy to get to following the directions. House looked just like the pictures and was very clean when we arrived. Definitely would love to go back when we could spend more time!
