Just be aware that the hot tub is a paid extra, something that is not mentioned but that is not the hosts fault. They are unsure why that information is missing from the listing. Hotels.com were useless at trying to sort that out. But don't hesitate to book this place, just maybe drop them a message about using the hot tub first. "Lovely location and the room served a purpose. Found one of the staff members a little unprofessional, she was dark haired and younger, laying blame on other colleagues when we were misinformed about key things. Rather than trying to find a solution. Young dark haired guy was lovely and his customer service was very good. Breakfast was good quality."

"We had a nice overnight stay in this hotel, the evening meal in the restaurant was really good and the breakfast was excellent (we both had the delicious Eggs Benedict but also appreciated the fresh fruit pots and mini pastries). Room was clean and the only reason I've gone for 4 stars is that the plug in the bathroom sink got stuck although when we reported it to reception we were offered the chance to move rooms so they did try to rectify the situation. The only other thing to note was that our visit happened to coincide with a party in the marquee outside although the loud music did stop at midnight and we had received a message from the hotel earlier in the week warning us there was an event on so not a big problem. We're planning on a return visit to make use of the spa facilities."

"A decent enough room for the price. The only issues were a very noisy radiator in the room that woke me several times and very disappointing shower - hardly any water coming from the shower head. Other than that it’s a very historic hotel with character and in a lovely location."

"We booked this hotel when we travelled from Kent to a 50th wedding anniversary. The location is beautiful, right on the river with country views. A short walk into the pretty town. The hotel was very nice, the breakfast plentiful with a good choice. We also ate in the restaurant and had a very nice meal. The room was large and had a nice bathroom with a great shower. There is no lift in this hotel, but there are rooms nearby which might suit people who would have difficulty climbing the stairs. There are also low beams, which are charming but be aware if you are tall. All in all we were very happy with our stay. Sudbury and the surrounding areas are lovely. We went into Cambridge one day using the Trumpington park & ride, and went to Clare castle and country park. I would happily recommend this hotel."

"The room was clean, but dated. The staff were friendly and very helpful We didn't have breakfast there, but only because we had other arrangements. We did have dinner the three nights we stayed, all of the meals were excellent and well presented. Parking was not a problem, enough space for all guests and staff. The hotel is an old property that oozes character and the garden is quiet and relaxing. The room we had does need some tlc to be honest, but for 3 nights it was acceptable."
