Hotel Columbia - Palermo

I spent 4 nights n this hotel in a room for the disabled even though I am not handicapped. The location of this hotel provides you with easy access to the main tourist attractions like the Fontana Pretoria and it's just a 15-minute walk to the bus and train terminal (if not carrying a luggage). The main entrance is not on Via Maqueda, so you have to pass through a small pathway with some stinky rubbish bins to get to the hotel. Well, it's quite common to see rubbish bins poorly handled in Palermo. There are some bars and pubs in a nearby street but the discos are far away. The room was quite dim and run-down. There are always disturbing sounds from the pipeline, from the other room or from the corridors. I could hardly sleep in the morning. Maybe I usually stay in the room in the morning, no cleaning service was provided on the first 2 days. The hotel staff, no matter the morning shift or evening shift were very helpful d tried their best to accommodate my need. If the hotel can possibly be renovated in future, I still think that it's a bargaining choice.

Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und kompetent. Die Lage der Unterkunft ist gut. Mein Zimmer hatte eine Klimaanlage, jedoch war diese leider sehr laut. Die Wände sind sehr dünn wie die Tür, sodass man durch die kleinsten Geräusche gestört wird. Darüber hinaus sind die Betten unbequem.

Our room had no mini fridge as said on site.. 'each room has a mini fridge'. The shower had mold in the corners and did not drain well. You are standing in dirty water by the time you are finished showering.The breakfast was very average. No elevator and noone offered to carry our luggage down the stairs when we were checcking out. A/C very weak. Holes in the walls, poorly maintained - shower head holder broken, towel hook holder falling out of the wall. Maid service only every 2 days. However it was a comfortable bed and spacious room. Complimentary breakfast snacks and coffee. Overall not the best but definitely not the worst. Average. If you’re just looking for a place to sleep in a good location, it works for your needs

It’s cheap. You pay for what you get. You get a bed, a shower, espresso in the morning, and close proximity to downtown. The AC is not great so it’s hot. Not the best night of sleep but it’s a place to put your head at night. Most importantly, it’s safe and the staff is incredibly nice. If you’re a 20-something, just trying to experience Palermo on a budget, this is a safe bet.

I liked the stay mostly because of the staff and the breakfast. My room was pretty old and not in that good of a condition. It wasn’t that clean. However, the people were nice and the surrounding area was great too.

1) If you are driving, pick a property outside of Palermo City, proper. The streets are extremely, narrow, unsafe and drivers don't appear to follow international driving rules and laws. 2) The GPS doesn't work reliably in town center. 3) The staff at Hotel Columbia were not very helpful and eager to assist. 4) There is not elevator in the hotel!

Posizione eccezionale, centro storico ma sufficientemente defilato per non avvertire il rumore della movida. Camera semplice con il minimo indispensabile ma con aria condizionata, prima colazione basica. Personale cordiale e disponibile a suggerimenti. Lo consiglierei.

Da sconsigliare!

Hotel con camere su più piani ma privo di ascensore (ma segnalato nel sito), il che credo giustifichi le 2 stelle. La camera molto spartana, estremamente rumorosa, e scarsissima pulizia (al nostro arrivo nel pavimento del bagno erano presenti molti capelli, che non sono stati rimossi per tutta la durata del soggiorno). Colazione altrettanto spartana (assenza di uova e di pane normale, una bevanda indecente spacciata per succo di frutta).

Excellent and great value hotel right in the centre of Palermo. Very good staff. I had a comfortable single room with ensuite bathroom with a good shower. Amazingly quiet for the centre of the city. Good breakfast.
