I stayed at Americana Inn, a Travelodge by Wyndham, and the experience was unacceptable. While the bed was surprisingly comfortable and I didn’t see signs of bed bugs (I’ll update if that changes), nearly everything else fell below basic standards.
At check-in, I was charged a $75 undisclosed fee not mentioned during online booking. Had I not been paid at midnight, I wouldn’t have been able to stay, despite prepaying.
The room felt cold and empty, with ineffective air conditioning that couldn’t cool the room, even overnight. The bathroom was in poor condition, with cracked tiles, stained surfaces, and deteriorated caulking. The cabinet under the TV was broken, and a cockroach crawled out of the drawer. I saw multiple bugs, and the microwave was rusted and dirty.
Even worse, a smoke detector had been removed, leaving exposed wiring, and one outlet was loose with visible gaps—clear safety violations.
For a Wyndham property, this was extremely disappointing. The lack of transparency, sanitation, and safety is unacceptable.
I was more comfortable sleeping in my car than in that room.
