Room was good size, bathroom was very old and needs updating. Air conditioner did not cool so checked filters and they were disgustingly dirty. We cleaned them and asked housekeeping to vacuum floor and was still not done 3 days later. Bottles, rubbish and a dirty linen bag was left outside our room all day. Disappointed with my stay here.

Room cheaper than the food
The room was clean and reflected a credible homage the mid-1980s aesthetic. The inclusion of ear-plugs with the tea and coffee caddy was alarming however noise was not an issue for me. The staff were professional, friendly and seemed engaged in their jobs. My biggest gripe was the menu. The food was criminally expensive with the extortionate cost some distance from the food court like quality of the offering. An unhinged lunatic was allowed access to a cask of perri-perri mayonnaise which they deposited on an innocent chicken pizza. The schnitzel could have been pressed into service as a peening hammer. That said, the Bangers and Mash were tasty and a welcome departure from an otherwise dire gastronomic misadventure. Travel-tip, grab a bottle of your favorite wine in town and decant into a drink-bottle to avoid the fierce markup over the bar.

The hotel facilities were dirty my bed sheets had blood stains and urine stains and the shower had no hot water bar a drip. Reception was closed and staff in the bar area stay my only options were to wait until 10am the following morning or call up after 10am. I left my number and complaint - no one called me. I then called and sent an email with pictures and I have had no reply. the bar area and restaurant is nice and recommend going there for dinner or drinks, However, the hotel and the lack of customer service i have received I wouldn't go back again.

Good, well-located base for a good price
Great location in the Hunter, clean rooms for a good price, nice to have the other aspects of Harrigan's including the pub/dining onsite. Our only requested change is to have reception manned before 10am in the morning, considering this is also when checkout is - we had a question we couldn't get answered and 10am seems late to be opening up reception. But overall, very good.

This place is all about the location in the lovely Hunter..... And that's it. The state of our unit for the high cost per night was very ordinary which is being generous. Awful old carpet and couch, cabinets peeling away, flyscreen falling apart. Just everything seemed to be 15 years old or more and the definition of a fixer upper. We didn't have some awful time or anything, but I could not recommend staying here.
